Thanks for starting!
For Jonny Gomes:
One non-1/1 off the needs list
One 1/1
One game-used bat
One game-used jersey
The second, third, and fourth, may be doable. The first I probably have about a 15-20% chance of.
Thanks, guys! Still can hardly believe it. To be fair, of the remaining cards I'm missing (listed below), this is one of the few that I thought I had a realistic shot at. But almost every non-1/1 would be easier to find than what's left. In this case, the common saying of rare but...
It's the blue! Holy cow. Been looking for this for 16 years, and have never even heard of someone with it, let alone seen it. It's also the first non-1/1 off my list in maybe five years. And what a way to find it!
That's what I'm hoping! Have been looking for it for 16 years. I'm pretty sure it has to be from Special F/X; the UD is logo is different on the regular Upper Deck issue. Then, it looks too shiny to be the base, and while it looks a bit more purple than blue, I can't make out a serial number...
A lot on eBay popped up a few days ago, listed as a "Lot of 22 Jonny Gomes Baseball Cards - Rookies & Jersey Relic." $15 with shipping; I purchased it almost immediately.
The photo of the lot is below. Anyone see what I saw? (No, I don't mean Yan Gomes posing as Jonny Gomes.) And—if so—do...
Not sure who the Kazmir/Young/Upton/Crawford/Huff collectors of the world are, but this one is tough---six players, on a card numbered to 10.
And then this 1/1 includes Jorge Cantu, whom @r2d2 collects:
Congrats! Must feel nice to check one off the list. I gotta ask: 14 1/1s, a /5, a /10, and then a /50 and /100? Any particular reason for the Phelps and Millwood outliers?
Thanks again, @madbull34. Have just ordered both cards, so hopefully I'll be officially crossing them off the list shortly.
I ended up using Buyee, which Dave of https://japanesebaseballcards.blogspot.com/ turned me on to. It's a third party site that facilitates orders from Japan—the sellers...
Thanks, I appreciate you looking. Do you happen to have any ideas on how to see if Gomes has any other cards in addition to those two—whether parallels, or other cards entirely?
Does anyone have any ideas for how to track down copies of Japanese baseball cards?
From what I can tell, Gomes has two 2016 cards from his short stint with the Rakuten Eagles. First, there's what TCDB describes as "2016 Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles Team Issue." Then, there's the "BBM Eagles...
A good way to figure this out is to look at Getty Images (see here), AP Images, and YouTube. Frequently you can find multiple photos of the same event from different angles, which often lets you see name plates and/or jersey numbers. It's how I figure out who are the cameo players on some of...
Thanks for all the responses! Upper Deck definitely didn't make it easy, what with a bunch of similar cards from 2006 and 2007 Fleer, Fleer Ultra, and Flair. I think those cards are:
2006 Flair Showcase Autographics (LaneyB; magicpapa post 586)
2006 Fleer Ultra Autographics (magicpapa post...
