Contest Time El Duque winner stokelydokely

Bumping a seven-year-old thread! I just wanted to post this photo of the El Duque card (third row, R) in a display plaque that I dug out of my childhood bedroom a couple years ago, and finally got around to hanging up. In it are some nostalgic cards and more recent favorites. Thanks again Joey!

THE OFFICIAL NEW YORK YANKEES IN SEASON THREAD

Yeah, we kind of lucked out on Saturday - it was obviously warm, but there was a gentle breeze blowing through for most of the game. It's nice that the stadium is at least oriented toward the east so that the sun is behind everyone for the evening games.

THE OFFICIAL NEW YORK YANKEES IN SEASON THREAD

I was there! Recently moved back to the area after 14 years in Chicago. Took my wife to a game a couple weeks ago (when HV mounted the late comeback) and then on Saturday I went with my parents - that walk-off slam was awesome! Kind of a shame there was such a sparse crowd there to see it. The...

TTM & IP Successes for October - December 2018

Long time, no post! Sent a dozen or so requests to spring training (admittedly, a little on the late side), and got one return postmarked November 9. Former Giants/Indians/DBacks 3B, and current A's coach, Matt Williams! I'd wanted to get this particular card signed since I plucked it out of a...

TTM & IP Successes for April - June 2017

Jonathan Toews on a Chicago CTA ad (11"x17"ish) ; sent 2/10/17 and returned 4/19. Been wanting to send this to him since I snagged it off an el car six years ago! (Signed under "Cup")

Is there any way to track USPS package WITHOUT a tracking number?

For what it's worth, USPS seems to be very responsive on Twitter. A couple of weeks ago, I had a question about an item I had mailed, so I tagged them in a tweet and they invited me to direct message them - I felt like I got better service through that interaction than I ever have on the phone...

    Babe Ruth Bat barrel..........

I LOVED the tour when I visited a few years ago. More importantly though, I was with five other people whose baseball fandom ranged from non-existent to lukewarm (they were just humoring me on a cold autumn afternoon) and they also had a blast. Between taking a couple swings with the game-used...

    Marinara, cheese and Topps

I think I had just started to get into collecting when I sent away for the '93 Yoo-Hoo Baseball Legends (Limited Edition!) set. If only we could acquire all our cards simply by eating junk food!

Contest Time El Duque winner stokelydokely

I already PMed Joey but just wanted to take a minute to say thanks again for running the contest! As a huge Yankees fan growing up in the 90s, I became a fan of El Duque immediately. He made his debut during the glorious Summer of '98, as the Yankees were rolling toward a then-ML-record win...

what is the untouchable part of your collection

I've gone through a few lulls over the course of my collecting, and at various times I've wondered "What could I get for this or that." One item that has never been part of that internal conversation is my 1994 Albany Yankees team yearbook, with the Jeter card inside and intact. It's not worth...

Do you remember the first Beckett magazine you bought?

The January 1996 issue. I must have bought it at a card show at the mall, and I imagine it was at least a month or two old at that point. I remember being struck by the cool photo collage, especially Carlos Baerga looking so casual diving toward second base. The reds, whites, and blues of the...

"Take me to your baseball cards"

From when he had big sideburns? (Side note: coincidentally, the other post I just wrote was about a Yaz card!)

Ever lose or lose track of a card?

I'm late to this thread, but I've been trying to figure out the whereabouts of one card for 12 years. In December 2001, I was a senior in high school and my childhood collecting days were winding down. I read about this new "Topps Tribute" product, and was totally fascinated by the idea of...
