Exactly. Every hard hit ball does that at impact. Plus, this particular shot is an optical illusion that exaggerates the actual "flatness" because the camera is not fast enough to catch the actual speed of impact between frames.
A special high speed camera (not a broadcast TV camera) would show the effect more accurately.
