These are the core guys now we need to add talent with.

Don't see Kemp or Markakis being around all that much longer plus they are old. Phillips had a good year but again he's old and not the future. Would be nice to have a stud catcher for the next 5+ years.

Acuna will replace one of those two outfielders next year and hopefully he'll become a franchise player we can also build around. Hopefully one of either Brett Cumberland & Alex Jackson can end up solidifying the catcher position. Both have had good seasons but regressed when they moved up a level.

Austin Riley is the closest 3rd baseman to becoming major league ready. Kid has legit power (back-to-back 20 HR seasons in the minors) but it comes and goes, as does his contact. A year ago I had him pegged as our next star prospect who would make an impact at the majors but I am now questioning that, as his OPS & avg continue to decline as he moves up (although he's done quiet well at AA but again, he's streaky). I think he certainly has more potential than Rio Ruiz.

If we want to actually have a shot at the postseason next year we are going to have to sign an impact bat and frontline starter this offseason. We can't solely rely on our farm system so we've got to be willing to spend some money. And not just a few mil on this utility guy and 10 mil/2 yr on that platoon/bench guy.

Dansby Swanson has dramatically improved since he was recalled from triple A. He has raised his batting average 28 points (.210 -> .238), his OBP 35 points (.284 -> .319) & his Aug. 9th .592 OPS has gone all the way up to .662.

His overall numbers still aren't pretty but they are certainly trending in the right direction as he's been hitting over .320 avg/.430 OBP/.900 OPS since his return a month ago.

I agree that Dansby has looked much better since getting called back up to Atlanta. If he can continue to work on his weaknesses this off-season, he could be a huge part of the lineup in the next few years.

For sure. It would be a tremendous boost to our team and our future if he can continue to progress in the right direction and grow as a player.

Since following him as a prospect I (and most scouts) never projected him to become a perennial All-Star superstar type player who would hit .300/30+ HR. I had him pegged to become a well above average player who could consistently hit .280/.350/.450 & 10-15 HR/10-15 SB per season with solid defense. For a shortstop, offensive numbers like that would be quiet productive.

I still think he could achieve numbers like (although I think 10 stolen bases would be on the high end) if he learns to adjust, as the league has adjusted to him. This is the case for all rookie/young players. Those who do aspire and those who don't become replacement players.
