How did Chipper never get 200 hits? He had averages above .320 several seasons didn't he?

So has Mike Trout but he's never reached 200 hits either. It's a much more difficult feat than most think.

1. You pretty much need to play nearly every game of the season (Ender has missed just 3)
2. Hit at the top of the order so that you get that extra plate appearance every game.
3. Avoid taking many walks

A player like Chipper or Trout who had elite on-base appearances stood very little chance of reaching 200. Only once has either reached 600 at-bats in a season (Trout had 602 in 2014 & Chipper 601 in 1997) because so many of those at-bats simply become plate appearances (due to taking so many walks) and in order to have 200 hits with only 600 at-bats you need to hit for a .333 avg or higher.

Having only missed a few games of the season while batting leadoff in every one of them (and drawing less than 50 walks) Ender was able to amass 654 at-bats this season allowing him to hit for a lower average than Chipper/Trout and still reach 200 hits.

Valid points! Still hard to believe but it makes sense as to why great ones like Chipper and Trout have never reached 200 hits.

Albies is 2-for-2 with 2 stolen bases & an RBI

I'm happy to see the little guy stepping up his speed game. Historically this is a team led by management that does not like to send our runners, even the fast ones. So two in one night is a bit surprising. He's now 7-for-8 in stolen base attempts

2017 Season: .279 avg 5 HR 26 RBI .801 OPS 7 SB 1.5 fWAR

Albies - .284 avg 6 HR 27 RBI .817 OPS 7 SB

Scouts were SOOOO wrong for giving Albies a 20 power score on a 20-80 scale! Don't mistake size for lack of power. He's only 20 years old & I can easily see him putting up 15 HR in a season (He already has when you combine his minor & major league stats).

Definitely more power than Swanson.

And how about Lane Adams? He hits a 3-run bomb in the 1st...his 5th of the season.

This kid seemingly came outta nowhere but has put up some good numbers. Similarly to Albies, he's got some pop in his bat, speed in those wheels and hits for a good average.

Lane Adams - .289 avg 5 HR 20 RBI .853 OPS 10 SB

He's done all this in only 97 career at-bats.
