Tony Phillips has died of an apparent Heart attack at the age of 56.

An unbelievably versatile player, who played everywhere but Catcher and pitcher all the time, had a 18 year career, most of it with Oakland, ending his career there after the 1989 WS Win. He went to Detroit and enjoyed his best stats years there.

He was also the first Oakland A's player to hit for the cycle.

Personally, he was one of my Late father's favorite players and it is sad to see another member of the '89 team pass away too young...:(

That sucks... He was a fun player to watch. I used to go to all the A's Yankees game in the mid to late 80's with my dad and between Phillips, Carney Lansford, Dave Henderson they use to kill me. Truly sad.
