Had heard the big hang up was indeed the Tribes plans for 2017. Sounds like he was told he would be the #2 catcher plus play 1B/DH. So I kind of get it. He shouldn't be backup to Gomes. And then when he does hit free agency if he's viewed as a 1B/DH guy he's worth a LOT less than as the #1 catcher he is. He's 31. He needs the most out of that free agent contract. Besides, anyone who acquires him is not in rebuilding mode so he'll be on a competitive team somewhere

I think his exact words were "winner". Maybe it's a semantic argument, but winning at the moment doesn't make one a perpetual winner.
Plus, Cleveland was on his no-trade list for a reason.
