Best type of scanner for vintage raw cards.

I currently have a HP Office Jet 5740. It's a ***** to use when I try to scan my collection of mostly raw pre-war cards. What kind of scanners do you folks use ? I like the all in one machine for home use. I don't use the fax machine part at all. If a pain scanner works best. I'll pick one up. Thanks

I have a Canoscan 9000F Mark 2. It's just a flatbed scanner. So far it's producing high quality scans: https://www.flickr.com/photos/24691365@N08/.

It works extremely well with non-shiny, older cards too. It's a bit pricier, but worth the cost for me.
