A Dodger and Yankee rookie battling for the MLB HR title for the rest of the year would be fun.

Would not blame anyone for selling what they had, but congrats if you held on.

Imagine if one or both gets within striking distance of McGwires rookie record of 49.

Make that #21 . Just hit his 2nd tonight. First major leaguer ever with 21 HR in first 51 games.

This pace calculation assumes both players will play every remaining game for their team.

Judge
23 HR in 65 games, 95 remaining games so current pace predicts 33 more HR for a season total of 56.

To get to 50 HR, Judge will need to homer once every 3.51 games.

Bellinger
21 HR in 51 games, 91 remaining games so current pace predicts 37 more HR for a season total of 58.

To get to 50 HR, Bellinger will need to homer once every 3.13 games.

Bellinger is scorching hot right now, but Judge still has the inside track on coming out on top.

It's been extremely rare for a rookie to lead their league in HR and I'm pretty sure we've never had a season where rookies won the HR crown in each league. Pulling for both of these guys.

Should make for an interesting competition to follow during the 2nd half. Any time on the DL should secure the win for the other guy. If both stay healthy, I'm going with Bellinger.
