The 1980's and early 1990's in the National League would have looked a lot different had the Padres not traded Ozzie Smith away to the Cardinals in exchange for Gary Templeton.

Teaming Smith and Gwynn for the better part of both their careers would have been historically fun. It also would have set up the Double-Play duo of Smith and Roberto Alomar, who made his debut in 1988 at age 20.
That would have been fun.

on the field ability - I think Smith would have still been a HOF and may have even still gotten a WS ring... in 1984.

Hobby collectibility - probably worse had he remained a padre all those years. The move to St. Louis definitely should have helped his collectibility and publicity IMHO.
