I always wanted an auto'd card from this set, of any player. On the rare occasions they come up for auction, prices keep rising so much that whatever the last one that sold for seems like a bargain. I should get back to collecting the regular set, they are actually mostly reasonable right now but could heat up again.
Looking for 2011 Topps Marquee Museum autographs, rare Frank Thomases and Grady Sizemores I don't have

Years ago I bought the Rafael Palmeiro Auto for about $600 then I sold it to a collector for about $800..so they can be had for a decent price.. (or an insane price!)

There are a few cards that when they show up can be had for under 1K:

    Rafael Palmeiro
    Willie McCovey
    Reggie Jackson

    1K-2k
    Eddie Mathews
    Frank Robinson
    Hank Aaron

The prices depend on how many were signed.. Most of them were numbered to their jersey number.. Ted Williams /9, Harmon Killebrew /3, etc..

The Eddie Mathews that is currently on EBAY for $1900 is numbered /41 and the Sosa ($2500) is numbered to /21..

Exactly. For reference I sold a Banks /14 for $6,000.

This makes me happy seeing a modern card do well with an auction house.

This fall's REA will have some..... interesting stuff.

Modern cards (significant ones) at REA always seem to do well. I'm actually considering consigning a few.

Any more info on the "interesting stuff"?

edit: I called REA today and it looks like I'm too late for the Fall auction, so going to have to see about the Spring one to send some stuff in.

It depends on what you mean by better. There are quite a few that have great items up in every auction they have.

Behind the scenes some of the auction houses have engaged in things like silent reserves and other questionable behavior, though I am not an expert on that and I basically bid what I am willing to pay.

Not too many have high end modern day cards if that's what you are looking for. So I'm all also better than others about describing shortcomings of cards (for example some will state if they believe a vintage card was graded generously).

Some auction houses I keep an eye on:

Robert Edward Auctions (their catalogues are legendary...)
    Heritage
    Huggins & Scott
    SCP
    Goldin
    Hake's
    Lelands
    Love of the Game

There are others as well that I am blanking on and in some cases they have specialties that they are particularly good at.

When I saw it listed on eBay I thought the seller might take a hit.

$6100 is a really serious price for this... except if you were flipping a card you paid $7100 a few weeks before.

Wow. It's just great the love these things get now. Only one who made money was the auction house.

A Mays just went up on eBay with a BIN of $4k taking offers. It's usually a $2500-$3500 card or so. Amazing that Griffey outsells Mays.
