Just curious what people think. Please comment on your choice if you wish, but base/main/flagship sets only. We all know the real winner is 1971 Greatest Moments.

1971 because it has the best action shot ever used on a baseball card.

I wish. I'm at work and can't grab a scan of mine so I just used the one on PSA's website. Mine is so off center that most of the right border is gone but I still love the card.
I agree, i have one in bad condition but it's iconic

Bring me your Bickford, Ryan McMahon, Senzatela and Peter Lambert cards

Those 71s are TOUGH when it comes to grading, but I do love that design, along with the cheesy lettering in '72 and overall look of '73. But in the end, 1975 is too great to pass over. I love the color combinations, and the great rookies in the set just seal the deal for me.

1975 is the only complete set I have from the '70s.

I went with '74. Clean, timeless design with team uniform colors on the borders.

1971 as it's my birth year! ;) It's also among the better designs of the decade.

I do wish Topps would quit abusing the design in every modern product they release nowdays. How about retire the reprints and modern players on 1971 designs until Topps Heritage 1971 hits in a few years.

The '75 set is so 1975. I believe the only other set in that entire decade that screams the year it was made is 1972. In my opinion, 1975 is the set of the decade.

It is interesting to view these types of poll results and wonder what the draw for each person is. Sometimes I feel these things are heavily influenced by perceived value or sentimental reasons rather than by aesthetics.

I believe that aside from the actual set design, the photo selection has a lot to do with how nice a card appears. Perhaps I might like 72 Tops better if they had started incorporating those action shots that became common place the following g year, as that design with those boring poses do nothing for me. Especially those large head shots looking up from below, so it seems like you are looking up their noses.

I like most of the designs of the 70s, probably a lot of that has to do with those was the bread and butter of my collection in the beginning and for the longest time before I started spending more and discovering older cards.

1970 - I like the simplicity of the grey border and the colored team names. There are some interesting photos used too, pre-action era. 135333.jpg

1971 - See Munson above. I agree one of the coolest looking cards ever and those black borders are nice when they are not worn or chipped.

1972 - Barf! I struggled to find any card I really like from the set. This one is pretty decent considering.ab06f40a4e1a199fa292e9c8357a53db.jpg

1973 - Ho Hum design, but los of great action shots.Bonds.jpg

1974 - I do like this design and again, many great action photos. Always loved that Aaron HR king card too.42f.jpg

1975 - The multicolored borders were a hit when I was a kid. I think now, the fact that there are different color combos bothers me some. Some pairs are hideous. Great photos and the AS badge was born. 1975-topps-50-brooks-robinson-37491.jpg

1976 - Probably my 2nd favorite design. Some stunning auction shots, but this is perhaps #2 best card image of the 70s. 140576.jpg

1977 - My favorite set. I just love the framed photo, the team names in color and the position flags. Toss in a nice action photo, an AS badge or a rookie cup and you have a great looking and set.s-l1600.jpg

1978 - The year I began collecting. Another great set. the design is simple, but I like the scripted team names and the AS badges. I love the Ault card with the rookie cup and Munson cameo, but this is an all American card for sure.138699.jpg

1979 - A decent design that works best with action shots. 513puwMRObL._SY445_.jpg

The 80s would quickly turn into a boring card design era for me personally, but 1980 Tops started the decade with a bang. Some nice action photos and the 2nd to last appearance of the AS badges as a stand-alone. front.jpg

1973 Topps cards look like they were made to be autographed. They look absolutely great signed.

That 1976 Topps Bench is a great picture too. Love all the dust around him.

Poll turned out pretty much as I expected, with 75 and 71 being the clear favorites, even given a small number of voters. Major surprise is that 74 ended up in third place. TBH, it's my least favorite set, although there are a lot of great pics in it. This is one of the defining cards of that set for me:

The horizontal image (the last base Topps set to use horizontal cards except for team cards until the 90s, I think I heard) with the out-of-focus, "bubbly" looking faces in the background. The flat pennants in the corners don't do a lot for me, but it's not ugly by any means.

Not surprised 79 is the least favorite. Not a bad design but out of 10 it would be #10 for me as well.

Thanks for playing.
