    Contract had the commissioner making $50,000 per annum.

    $50,000 in 1945 adjusted for inflation is $689,002.79 in 2017 dollars. Not a bad income...

    Highest paid player that year made $25,000. To be fair part of that was tied to the owners using the war as an excuse to push down salaries. Ruth made $80,000 one season and Hank Greenberg was making $55,000 just a few years before.
