Year 2 for this thread. see if we can get a few more replies this year.
Was 2017 a slow year? or a boom year? I'm curious what everyone wound consider their top 5 pickups of the year. doesn't even have to be hobby related. cards, GU, car? post it up!

here's mine:

#1 after selling mine to cover moving expenses about 10 years ago I was super hyped to get one back. future HOF

#2 while a great card, this was probably my deal of a lifetime should I choose to sell at some point.

#3 I waited nearly 8 years to finally see a copy. missed it the first go around. it was re-listed and I made sure I got it.

#4 After no pickups in this set for nearly 2 years this and the durocher were listed within a month of each other. I won thankfully. there are better copies out there but I'm thankful for this one

#5 one of my all time favorites, this was pointed out to me by Mr. Calfas. hit the BIN without question and easily one of my favorites of the year.

**honorable mention
2001 sweet spot Musial would be tied on this list at #5 but it's not in hand yet.

let's see yours!

My top 5 card pick-ups:

5. 1985 Topps Stickers All-Star FOIL Ryne Sandberg. My sticker album at 10 years old was as important as my baseball card collection. Bought many packs at the Convenient Store. Pulling a FOIL was a thrill, but I always seemed to get Ron Guidry. This isn’t a rare card but it is condition sensitive, so the grade drives the value. Love this one.

4. I haven’t seen this card for sale ever. Picked it up recently and now am looking to add the Putple and Orange SEASON versions. 1998 EPIX Emerald Season Ryne Sandberg.

3. I had this card once but sold it. I regretted it almost instantly but glad to have one back! 1997 Ultra Platinum Medallion Ryne Sandberg.

2. Won this eBay auction during the first act of the Musical “Aladdin” playing in Chicago. Had to be ultra discreet, to not only disrupt others around me, but also not to get smacked upside the head by my wife. 1996 Ultra Thunderclap Gold Medallion Ryne Sandberg.

1. Favorite card of the year was the 1995 Upper Deck Electric Diamond Gold Ryne Sandberg. The first time seeing for sale in like 8 years. Couldn’t hit the BIN fast enough. Great photo of a class act player.

I've been lucky enough to pick up some really interesting items this year including:

1) 1937 Pasadena City College Yearbook signed by Jackie Robinson

Robinson, Jackie 1937 Pasadena Autograph.jpg

2) 1945 Happy Chandler Commissioner Contract

3) 1945 Navy All-Star Game - Final Pitch Game Used Signed Baseball (All-Star game played by members of the Navy during WWII including HOF'ers like Stan Musial.)

4) 1929 Dick "Cannonball" Redding ***** League Contract (only known signature in existence). Many people view Redding as the most eligible ***** League player not in the Hall.

5) George Brett 3000th hit game line-up card

might be the reason, his Season cards were/ARE in Zenith
All Zenith Epix cards were embedded inside a 5" X 7" jumbo card, which had to be torn open to reveal the smaller, standard-sized card.

So had some great pickups this year

#1
2016 National Treasures 12 Player Materials Gold Jersey Number Inside.jpg2016 National Treasures 12 Player Materials Gold Front.jpg

I love this card because of all the great players a cool patches. I never thought I would be able to get one because of all of the other players on it, specifically griffey and thomas
Also its 5/10 bagwell's jersey #

2017 Museum Collection Momentous Materials Laudry Tag Patch.jpg
2017 Topps Museum Collection Laundry Tag 1/1
I was able to pick up the one from 2015. Now I have both. Just a great looking card.

Ichiro 2001 Upper Deck Gold Glove Leather Bound.jpg
2001 Upper Deck Gold Glove Leather Bound Ichiro
These never seem to come up for sale and its the most short printed card in the set. Found it at the National, which gives it some cool significance

1998 Donruss Collections Prized Collection Preferred Power.jpg
#4 1998 Donruss Collections Prized Collection Preferred
Was the last one I needed to complete all the bagwell cards. Never saw one before this year.

2015 Immaculate Collection Button Autograph.jpg
2015 Immaculate Button autograph 1/1
This one is special because it was the last card I needed to have all the bagwell releases from 2015 Immaculate including all 4 1/1s. The seller kept listing it and pulling it over the course of the last 2 years. I could never tell if someone else snagged it or he decided to keep it or what because it would disappear for long intervals of time. Finally was able to get a price we could agree on.

A few of my favorites that come to mind.

This was 1st prize in a fantasy baseball league I won:

My first Jackie Robinson card - I added to my 2004 Leaf Fabric of the Game set. Now up to 245 cards. Here is the link if anybody wants to take a look:

This card I have had since I pulled it from a pack at age 13 at Cumberland Farms. Finally got it graded this year:

I have a pretty massive Luis Tiant collection but for some reasons 1/1's have been very difficult to get. Got my first this month:

This is a card that I have wanted since I was a kid. Managed to get it in a trade and then got it graded:

Not in the greatest condition but I bought a small lot of 1980's rookies and this was in it. My first vintage Mantle:

Finally, one more that I love from the 2004 FOTG set:

Ill add a couple, including 1 i just got today.

Earle Combs 2006 upper deck legendary cuts cut auto 36/65.....was just a hard card to find for less than $300
IMG_20171213_201552_772.jpg

Just got this today, and was so stoked to get it. Last year at this same time, I won this card, and won it for a great price....and the post office lost it. So flash forward almost 1 year to the day, and this pops up at a good price with a best offer option. Made an offer and seller accepted it. Was in NY as well, and only took 2 days to get here. I've only seen this card on ebay, 3 times in years

Babe Dahlgren 2002 upper deck legendary cuts cut auto #25/51

I bought a ton of stuff after I decided to branch out from my Mariano Rivera collection. The most I ever spent on a single card:
