Anyone here ever try to put together the Topps Flagship gold set?

    #/2018, 2017, 2016, etc?

Seems like this would be a decently tough endeavor, but kinda fun. You'd likely never make your money back if you had to sell, but that's not why we collect. Anyone put this set together EVERY year? That would be quite the fun quest.

If I were going to try it, I'd do 2001 and the 2011 Update set.

Was 2001 the first year they did the numbered gold cards?

    2011 has Trout?

That'd be a great but expensive endeavor. Does seem possible if that was your collection focus.

There have been a few Golds with SP numbers due to quality control issues. The 2013 Update McCutchen is one of them.

I know there was a guy that did the 2011 diamond, cognac and sapphire /60 sets. And he did the 2013 emerald too. I remember most of the ones he needed were the SP's of retired players.

The golds look fairly easy, relative to other parallels with double-digit print runs, but you have 330 or so cards to chase, and I think you only get about 1 gold per hobby box this year, instead of 3-4, if I recall what I read. Case breakers selling them off in bunches makes it easier to make progress quickly. If you contact a big breaker like Brentandbecca to ask for help they might be able to give you a big chunk at once. Things might bog down in a couple months after people stop opening it in volume and you're reduced to finding one or two at a time. At that point, costs start adding up and paying $5 per card gets wearisome. Then series 2 comes out, then Update.
Looking for 2011 Topps Marquee Museum autographs, rare Frank Thomases and Grady Sizemores I don't have

2001 was the first year they did serial #ed gold cards. I have a complete 2001 Topps / 2001 Topps Traded Gold Colorado Rockies team set, not a full run though. An entire set of golds from any year 2001 - 2018 would be a colossal undertaking.

    2011 Topps Update has Trout.

Yeah, that was my thinking. It will be a hell of a project. The cards are out there, theoretically at least, with 2000 copies of each one, but the shear quantity of cards....660 plus another 330 perhaps, would just make it tough.
