I'm buying a baseball bat and need help choosing a model

So as some of you know, I've been losing a lot of weight lately.

As the weight comes off you get the urge to be more active and I'm going to hit up my local batting cage pretty often as a part of that.

I'm looking into bats and I think I want an axe handle grip with a composite body.

My question is should I go with this model as it's probably more durable...

Or this maple composite that should be pretty strong, but I might break with a hit off the trademark.

    Anyone have experience in this?

Last year I went to the batting cages with a group of guys. One guy had a axe handle bat, I think it was the Maple composite one. I found I didn't like the handle for hitting because it would require you to keep a hold of the bat in the same place all the time. Although it was neat to use it, I still like the regular style bat because I don't like hitting the ball on the same area almost every time as it really weakens that spot of the bat.

I know it doesn't answer your question at all, just my opinion on bat handles.

My great nephew has one of these, takes a lot of abuse if your into durability.

I dig the way the axe handle swings though. Feels more natural imo.

I've never swung one, but those axe handle bats don't look like they'd be useful for power hitters. Big, power hitters often place their pinkie finger on or below the knob to get more momentum when they strike the ball...at least I did. I personally like the feel of a wood bat; it's more natural. The most common ways to break one are 1) fouling off an inside pitch and 2) not lining up the grain properly at the peak of your swing. Since you won't be facing live pitching, I doubt #1 will be much of an issue. #2 seems like it might not be a factor if the axe handle lines the bat up for you. That said, $150 is a LOT to spend on a wooden bat which has potential to break. I'm used to paying $25-$30 for good wood!

To each his own. I find the axe makes it easier to generate power. If you need to wrap your pinky under get a longer bat.

I don't know anything about bats, but I just wanted to congratulate you on your weight loss!
