Albies was my first venture into prospecting and my decision was definitely based on the fact he was a Braves player. Had he played for any other team I wouldn't have gone with him. Unfortunately, a couple years later, by the time when I knew better than to make heart based decisions, I decided to sell off a large portion of my collection because base autos had reached $50 (I only paid $10-$13 for my base, 20+ for ref autos & $40 or below for color ref autos) and I didn't think there was any more room for improvement in prices because he had little power and I knew those types of players had a ceiling price, unlike guys like Bryant or Harper.

That was one decision where I wish I had gone with my heart and waited longer to sell but who could have predicted he'd display this sort of extra-base & home run power as a 20 year old at the major league level? Certainly none of the scouts, mlb.com rated his power tool at 20 and later at 30 in 2017. Fangraphs had him at 20/30 power & BA had him at 30 (and finally at 40). At least I held long enough to sell a couple base autos for $150+ each. Holding on to my 9.5/10 for my PC. That one ain't going nowhere. I get a mixed reaction when I look at my refractor auto collection:

Sure, it looks purty and I lie to myself "man I'm a genius investing in this guy! I knew all along he'd become a power hitting superstar. Why is everyone else an idiot for not spending a measly 10 bucks on a base auto. It's so hard being such a genius...with such a superior intellect I feel like I'm stuck in a world full of morons" but I also find myself calculating the current value of the cards in this pic to find out exactly how much money I left on the table selling so early. Then I get to thinking of this other card I pulled and how much money I lost off on...

Then I get to thinking...nope, I'm not a genius. I'm just another moron in a world full of smarter thinkers than I.

Not fancy like the Acunas and such but I'm running out of stuff to buy for my Jeff Frye collection. When this showed up on eBay from ToppsVault it was an easy buy.

It would be a lot cooler if Sy Berger's auto were real instead of a stamp.

That's awesome, I really like those. I've seen a Wakefield but it went too high for me at the time. I still wish I could have snagged it.

That's the blessing and the curse of collecting a guy very few people remember. Most of his stuff goes cheap IF (and at this point it's a big IF) I can find it. This one is, I assume, the last contract he signed with them since he retired during the 2002 season. Hopefully I can snag the rest if Topps ever releases them.
