I was looking through completed sales on red refractors and the numbers blew my mind:

2018 Shohei Ohtani - $35,100
2018 Shohei Ohtani - $30,300
2010 Manny Machado BGS 8.5/10 (auto looks a bit faded though) - $30,000
2016 Juan Soto BGS 9.5/10 - $25,000
2008 Giancarlo Stanton PSA 9 - $25,000
2010 Nolan Arenado BGS 9.5/10 - $20,000
2008 Clayton Kershaw PSA 9 - $12,000 (for his 2nd BC Auto!)
2016 Juan Soto Red Shimmer - $6,300
2017 Royce Lewis $6,300
2013 Clint Frazier BGS 9.5 - $5,000

Other players with really high sales include Joey Gallo at over $2,000 (twice!), Vlad Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette, Trea Turner, Javy Baez etc.

This is a different league from where high-end baseball RC Auto's were going 1-2 years ago,

Hot money from real estate and stocks has to find a new home.

I recently heard from someone that there are some international investors putting money into the industry.

Keep the money in prospects & modern cards, don't let those guys learn about 90s inserts until the player collectors have their full runs.

When considering it costs $2,000,000.00+ in cases to hit one red auto of each guy, those prices are very low.

I told JP a couple months ago that after being out of the hobby and getting back into it it's like freaking Wall Street with big fat cats investing and nudging their way into the hobby. I mean you can't exactly hold stocks in your hands and they certainly aren't shiny and autographed.
That and the Reds are the next cards up from the superfractor so I'm not exactly surprised by these prices on both notes.

Aside from supers, reds are my favorite refractors. They usually pop nicely, and being usually #/5, they have that cachet of super-rarity and difficulty but not unobtainability. Five figures for a card from this decade is more than I'd go unless I was a multi-millionaire, though.
