I wanted to share some items that I recently added. To me, they are now right up there as the favorite things I have owned. Maybe others won't think they are cool, but regardless some of you may appreciate a lil early Finest history. I have my fingers crossed that I'll be adding a few more pieces to this sub-collection in the next month or so and will update the post if I do. A month or so ago I had made a post of a non-related Clark sample I had obtained (will post something else later) and in that post I had mentioned the story of how Signs & Glassworks / SGW / Chromium Graphics had first approached Upper Deck about the use of their Chrome and Refractor technology they had created and UD said no (more to come), so they went to Topps. During their pitches they decided to use 3 players (Nolan Ryan, Roberto Alomar, and Don Mattingly) as their test subjects.

* I had forgot to add that these originated from the Sales Manager at SGW/Chromium, he sold to a friend of mine in turn I acquired the collection, the Golden Anniversary Refractor /5 Proof Sheet that some of you have added your players (Clark wasn't on sheet) came from that collection as well, though the sheets were moved in a separate deal to another buyer.

Some/most of you are aware of the way their cards looked as well as the promos that were issued at the National. I posted a pic of those, then the pics of what I added. To me it's a cool look at the history of one of the most important sets in the hobby. Hope you enjoy the different samples/tests as I do. Each one pictured is different in either color/style/background effect etc. Also some have really cool backs that have Nolan with someones batting stats, Mattingly/Alomar as an outfielder and some of the text is jibberish. Some look similar with the phone pics, so if you need to know what the difference between any are, lmk.

I'll have a few other things to post over the next few days, but here are a few other cool items. The first two are Samples from the never released 1999 Topps Crystal set (later moved to Topps HD). The third item, though lacking star power is even sweeter. It's one of the original Chrome mock ups used in creating the look and feel of the cards. Topps Chrome itself didn't actually come out til' 1996, but similar type items were created in non-sport items and similar technology was used in Finest/Bowmans Best etc. But the mockup was done in 1992 from what I know using a 1991 Topps look. Yes Jack Daugherty isn't amazing but the card is IMO. Card measures about 1/4 smaller around that a regular card.

Ryan

Where did you find these Ryan? Do these types of cards show up on eBay because I would think that these could be shady listings if you're not dealing directly with someone on the forum. Either way keep updating us on what you having coming in!
