Joey , You are right !
Joey , You are right about Jeter being the dominant guy at this moment in time . It can be surprising though when just a couple collectors get involved . Collectors will pay up for Griffey and i am a little surprised there isn't a larger premium for rare cards that PSA 10 or Beckett 9.5 . I have found that Ripken and Chipper collectors don't generally push the card prices to the moon , but on the other side you have guys like Will Clark and Omar Vizquel where i have seen prices for certain cards even surpass Jeter . Maybe 10 years from now you will get the same scenario with some of these guys . A lot of the children that these guys have had an influence on through camps and baseball leagues are now becoming doctors , lawyers etc. and may create that same fervor for the registry that you have seen with other players and even set builders for that matter . Time will tell , but I am always going to be an advocate for grading the more expensive or rare items in your collection . I do think it is crazy to grade the recent base common as supply and demand is easily controlled . Besides a showcase full of PSA 10 Jeters , Ripkens and Griffeys looks awesome at the National ! John the problem is you are quoting Jeter who has a strong registry presence. Nobody else has the same presence as he does. 90% of Griffey stuff from the 90s commands no premium in a PSA 10 or BGS 9.5. Always outliers but even recently a 97 Platinum Stars /30 griffey PSA 10 for the same price my raw sold for. Many of his pop 1 dufex inserts for instance would sell around $150-$200 regardless of rarity of it raw.
