2011 Bowman Platinum Auto Relics= Bait and Switch

I know this is a typical practice in the card industry, but the bait and switch job that Topps pulled on the Auto/Relic checklist is absolutely disgusting. I mean I get it: not everyone is going to get a great pull. I can (barely) stomach that Max Ramirez, Edwin Encarnacion, Juan Miranda, and others have cards on that checklist. Someone has to fill out the list.

But take a look at the cards from this set showing up on ebay. I know it's early, but there's several big names that haven't shown up yet. Carl Crawford, Josh Hamilton, Josh Johnson, Carlos Gonzalez, Aroldis Chapman, Evan Longoria, Corey Hart, Jason Heyward, Mike Stanton, Phil Hughes, Zack Greinke, etc. The only good name I am seeing pop up with any consistency is Starlin Castro.

What is up with this? I don't appreciate going to buy a $100 box and finding out that I am more or less being lied to about what may be in it.

Kudos to them for making a great looking product...but it shouldn't cost more than $60-70 per box if it is gonna be like this.

the sad fact remains, the checklist can change at anytime. The minute you put your money down on the table your
rights to a fair product are gone.

I would love to hear a legitimate answer, just one time from Topps on this. Just once!

I understand if 1 or 2 of the 10 best jersey autos get dropped, but when 9/10 of the best jersey autos get dumped, it is borderline criminal.

It is like going to the casino, the sign says they pay out 91%. You leave and the sign says, oops, we only pay out 19%. ILLEGAL. This should be as well.

Dinaabs, you have any REAL thoughts on this?

Yeah, I definitely understand that. I think the bigger problem, which may be a problem with my thread title, is that some of these autos ARE still on the checklist but at ridiculous odds. I know the odds should be low to pull a Carl Crawford auto, but we shouldn't be struggling to find a Mat Latos or Phil Hughes auto.

I really wonder if it would be worth anything to actually contact them, or if there is any legal action that can be taken. I mean it seems like borderline fraud.

It Topps....that's all you can say....the only way to change things is for everyone to quit buying their product...and that won't happen...so it it was it is...

He wouldn't ever have the balls to respond to a tough question. Most of his posts are generic cookie-cutter responses taken directly from the Public Relations Playbook

I really wish I was going to the Topps Q&A at the National. You know I'm not one to beat around the bush on anything. I'd probably get escorted out or arrested

how bout my auto relic refractor has a sticker over it. it was JP Arencibia which would have been cool with me. I think the Jays are going to be solid ollie in a couple years. But the sticker was for Trevor Bell - I'm sure he's a top notch prospect and all but my other relic refractor autos in the case were christian martinez, franklin morales, edwin encarnacion, juan francisco and jhan marinez. seriously

I've been waiting for the Latos to pop up but nothing yet, same boat as the guys mentioned above. Thing is, not too bummed because I knew it was going to be the same shiny sticker they used for last year's tribute and this years GQ.

What really ticks me off is Topps having autos of guys no one cares about-Ozzie Martinez, Jake McGee, John McDonald, Robinson Tejeda, Brett Cecil, Edwin Encarnacion, Yamaico Navarro, Leo Nunez, Juan Miranda, and the list goes on.

Go out and get guys that collectors want, guys that will bring value to the product. It doesn't have to be Derek Jeter-but get people that collectors care about for crying out loud. This is a piss poor job by Topps.

I'm glad all I bought was 3 blasters, because this stuff has no where to go but down.

Yeah I threw up a little in my mouth when this was the relic auto from my box today, at least it wasn't base I guess.....

I liked last year where they were all thick, patch or not.

Being regular GU thickness kind of makes them seem cheaper.

Bats suck as well.

Here's my jersey/bat autos: Adam Rosales/1166, Evan Meek/(green)199, Emilio Bonafacio/1166, Jhan Martinez/1166, Franklin Morales/1166, Juan Francisco/1166, redemption for Trevor Bell(his name is covering JP Arencibia on my redemption card too(2) Yamacio Navarro/1166, (2) Jesse Crain/1166. And one Cristhian Martinez(Braves) thick jersey auto red version/10, not a patch but an extra thick card for some reason. I also got a dual jersey auto red/10 of Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford (put that one on ebay)in the same box as the Red Martinez jersey auto!

Initial returns would suggest that their checklist is complete BS. That, or some of the better players have extremely low print runs.

Although it seems if you manage to pull a dual auto/relic, you don't do so bad! I guess they decided not to do a cool Bonafacio/Martinez Marlins Dual Auto
