I was reading this thread - http://www.freedomcardboard.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=143064 by sportscardtheory and noticed Cameron Maybin's name on the list. Didn't realize that he had been hitting so I started doing some looking on the stats.

.276 - AVG
7 HRs
29 XBH's
108 Hits
.331 - OBP
.402 - SLG
.733 - OPS
31 Steals - in a tie for 3rd in the NL

So in short, all of a sudden I look up and a guy who I had written off (in perhaps typical short term prospect mentality) is having a very respectable season. .280 with 150 hits, 40 XBHs is not out of reach. He plays in cavernous PETCO so that doesn't help the power figures but dang...not bad.

Maybin was at one point THE most talked about guy on the Beckett boards. What do you think of him now? Is this his peak or do you see him continuing to develop?

After checking a few recent sales - some must still have hope :)

.320/.366/.424 with 17 SB and 22 Runs

Tons of potential, playing a gold glove center field this year as well. Could be a corner stone player for the Padres. Has batted up and down their line up and has really produced for them this season. I am a big fan, could be a HUGE fantasy steal in next years fantasy baseball draft.

Glad I could help.

That half season where he was in the Final Man all-star ballot was so glorious and then, and then, nothing. Just lots of breeze blowing from all the whiffs.

Look at his road stats. .316/.369/.484

I still think his ceiling is a bit higher than Cameron but that is still probably a pretty good comp. And a really good player. Hit tool could be better with the power tool a bit worse.

And you're right - Cameron has had a long successful career - http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/camermi01.shtml but is effectively dead hobby-wise to Eric's point - [phil:1vdcxhej]300585424804[/phil:1vdcxhej] - that's about as high as you'll ever see a Cameron card go.

Anyone else bummed he has zero decent cards this year? No Ginter, no autos, no nothing. I would say the best card would be the canary Topps but haven't seen it yet. Sucks since he's had a ton of stuff up until this year.

first off! I have a problem with the hobby dead comment. honestly, Maybin has been playing well this year.. if he doesn't do well "hobby" wise. who cares! ya know??
he is playing well. .and I applaud that..real life vs. hobby life is often blurred...
