I managed to work out a deal for some more Tek cards with another Sandy Alomar Jr. collector. I sent him eight duplicates that I had in exchange for five patterns he had that I didn't. I gave up more, but I was only trading duplicates whereas he was trading cards he did not have duplicates of. I feel good about the trade on my end. I probably would not have done it if the positions were flipped, even if I was not going for the Tek set. I don't like giving up cards I don't have duplicates of from my PC.

Anyway, these are the patterns I still need. Just 19 more to go: 6, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 27, 40, 54, 55, 66, 71, 78, 83, 84, 86

I also need all diffractors except pattern 23.

I have these patterns to trade:
12 - Craig Biggio pattern 35
24 - Todd Walker pattern 67
25 - Tino Martinez pattern 14
38 - Vinny Castilla pattern 36
42 - Derek Bell pattern 81
52 - Jason Kendall pattern 50, 76
57 - Barry Larkin pattern 22
58 - Tony Clark pattern 81
62 - Jose Cruz Jr. pattern 28
70 - Chuck Knoblauch pattern 47, 53
75 - Brian Jordan pattern 66
78 - Mark Grace pattern 31
79 - Jeff King pattern 67
90 - Brian Jordan pattern 16

I had forgotten how beautiful the diffractor cards are when held up to a light . Got the Burntiz 48 pat# 70 Diffractor in the mail a couple days ago from a quick BIN ebay posting that I just happened to be looking for a few 1998 Topps TEKs for 30+ condition upgrades, Pattern# 1s, and same card #/pattern#s showed up while searching for five bucks delivered. My 7th Burnitz diffractor.

Im going to try to complete my second 90 card Diffractor set this year that has 14 cards to go..

Here's a 98 next to a 14. Yes, similar in effect, but to me much more effective in 98. Even in the Wave Pattern there is too much clear space that disrupts the awesome "broken glass" effect.

Yeah I am with you on that. I guess one good thing is that they didn't make '98 diffractor buybacks :)

I agree, from the picture I think the 1998 Tek looks better. I guess cards are about as high tek as they are going to get.

They probably couldn't find or afford enough 98 diffractors to use as buybacks.

Seems they couldn't find any '98's at all. I thought I remembered seeing one when the product first came out but can't find a link to prove it.

Could you imagine the price of a diffractor buyback auto though? Man that'd be a gem.

Boxes have crossed the $400 mark. What could you possibly pull to justify that price? Someone must be desperate and willing to gamble to pull some card they need. Or people are thinking of them as an investment. I wonder if the 1998 Topps Tek Bubble will make the news one day.
