Mine was the 1989 upper deck griffey RC for Christmas.
Remember opening it thinking as my 10 old self
"Who the hell is this guy?" Wasn't long after this my baseball interest went through the roof and Junior helped shape my formidable teenage years

1991 Jeff Bagwell Upper Deck rookie shortly after it's release in 1991. Got a Will Clark 87 Topps rookie that day too! Man I was on cloud nine!

1987 Topps Andre Dawson. Received a couple of them in 1987 and as a 7 year old kid who was new to the hobby, I just couldn't for the life of me understand why he was in an Expos uniform on the card lol

Great question but I'm not sure when I got my 1st Thome card. My best guess would be his 1992 Topps card. Of course I didn't start collecting his cards til Nov. 22nd, 2002.

Hawk8- I still need your address. Thanks!

My first Olerud was his 1990 Donruss RC pulled from a pack in the spring of 1990. I promptly traded it to a guy for a 1990 Donruss Jerome Walton. I thought I got a steal since Walton was the '89 NL ROY and Olerud was some guy I had never heard of.

I don't recall which card was the eventual first one I kept when I decided to collect Olerud.

1991 Stadium Club Frank Thomas, from a pack around June 1991.

2000 Bowman Draft Picks Grady Sizemore. I forget exactly how or where I got it, but I never bought the box set. Would've been winter of 2000-01. I do remember buying it because he was left out of the Chrome version, seemed to be a decent prospect, and it was a low-cost niche spec.

1984 Topps Cereal Series Dave Winfield. I got it along with Dave Concepcion and Ron Guidry (both of which I still have), and then somehow managed to lose the Winfield. I didn't collect cards at the time, but hung onto them since they came out of a cereal box. Not long after that, I bought my first pack of cards, 1983 Topps. I always remember it as a rack pack, but I still have almost all of the cards, but can only account for a cello pack's worth of cards, so it must have been a cello.

It wasn't until I happened to stop at a yard sale with my mom in 1986 and see a guy selling cards on a card table that I actually started collecting. I ended up buying a 1984 Topps All Star card, a 1984 Topps Super and a 1984 Donruss of Dave Winfield. it was the first time I really grasped that players had multiple cards and that there was more than one company making them. Been collecting Winfield ever since.

Took me about 5 years of collecting to finally pick up a replacement of that Cereal Series card.

Saw 89 Classic Purple Griffey in a sealed set.

"That's the guy we used to watch in San Bernardino!"

Pack fresh 1978 Topps baseball cards, which is the beginning of my entire collecting existence.

My first Sandy Alomar Jr. card was the 1991 Donruss Award Winner card. I am not completely sure how I got it, probably in a trade because I distinctly remember being annoyed that it took me years to get a card in a pack.

As for the Red Sox, my first pack ever included cards of Dennis Lamp and Tom Bolton. That was a pack of 1991 Topps.
