Will miss the entire season, per Joel Sherman.

Sorry Yanks fans, especially jcmint and D-Lite, to be the bearer of such news. :(

Anyone know if he used to pitch?

I also wonder if anyone knows what triggered the tear in May of 2015?

Teixeira still has a year left on his contract, so hopefully he can stay healthy. He hit 31 homers in only 111 games last season so he's still got it. The Yankees will miss Bird as a backup for when Tex eventually gets hurt, but it's not like New York is losing their starting first baseman.

And I certainly wouldn't be investing in Bird now, since his shoulder problems are recurring and never healed, and could really sap his power down the line.

His shoulder was checked by two different doctors in october, who's recomendation was no surgery. Hope the yankees get better advise in the future.
