Checked for funzies..

I'm complete for 1989-1995 plus 2 little cards from 2010. With 1:1s, that's as good as it'll probably ever get so my main goal is complete for non 1:1s, which I'm close on many more years. All this assumes these are strictly cards who's existence I am aware of.

Also checked for fun, Becket lists 892 Jeff Cirillo cards (minuscule compared to some of you poor bastards) while my own list shows 946 entries. I don't keep quite the same sadistic lists for my other players

Yea, much past 1996 or so, it's SO tough to finish a player who was in mass product because of the 1/1 and printing plate frenzy.

As for the checklist, that's crazy. Albert Belle has 2,725 cards listed on Beckett - two of them don't exist and I probably only have ~40 Albert Belle cards they either don't recognize or that they don't recognize yet. Mine is pretty buttoned up but again, I've worked with them to add probably 40 cards over the last couple years and remove cards which didn't exist, etc. It's not easy but it's do-able.

Yea, he is through 1997, which is impressive.

I'm 3 cards away to complete 1996 and 22 cards away from 1997 complete.

1996 is do-able for me and I can't speak for other players like Grace but for Belle, 1997 isn't happening... he has multiple 1/1s and printing plates and also both 1997 Pinnacle Certified Mirror Blacks, which the jury is still out whether those exist or not :(

It's a great chase though. Finding anything I need pre-2001 is a real treasure at this point for me. I think there is only one or two cards on eBay which I even need but both are just graded version of a SP and I'm not willing to overpay for a graded version of them... I'll just wait ;)

1991 and 1993 will be completed in about 5 hours :) Cant wait!!

2001 (1 card), 2002-03 (11 cards including 4 1/1s) and 2003 (14 cards) are all complete. 2002 (44/45 including 4 1/1s) is almost there, and the missing card may well not exist.

After that come the 1/1s, which are all I'm missing from 2008 on.

Regarding Beckett: it lists 663 cards to my 717. I could easily drop them a line, and I'm sure they'd add some of the cards. But when push comes to shove, my their database is never going to pare up to the standards I have for my excel spreadsheet, nor be anywhere as versatile. So why bother?

I'm in a similar boat. I don't lose sleep over the 1/1's and figure I'll never see most of them. Not counting 1/1's and Printing Plates, my years/counts are below. Not bad, I think!

1996: FPP
1997: (2) Mirror Black and Online Winners
1998: (2) Studio Media Test Issue and UD MVP Preview

Got to count 1/1s and plates. I'm not one to be picky and say you need variations, unlisted odd ball, cameos, etc. but just isn't the same ;)

Anyways, impressive. I just hit the 89% mark full go today with the showing up of the 2013 Leaf 1991 Buy Back /5.

IMO 90% is 100% in my mind.

I can do the math tomorrow but I'm probably well into the 90% range without counting 1/1s or plates. Then again, I'd have to remove from the nominator and denominator in my calc ;)

Yep, I get it!

There are likely more than a few 1/1's forgotten in closets in/around Cleveland that'll never see the light of day. I think uniquebaseballcards here has at least one or two. Several have gone to Venezuela, probably never to return. My guess is many 1/1's are locked up for the long-term and I will never have the opportunity to find/buy them. Of course if I see one for a good price, I'll jump on it. On the other hand printing plates just don't appeal to me like cards or other memorabilia. I've probably seen and passed on at least 15. I've got probably 30ish, but only because they were the only "cards" available at the time. Some look nice but in general I'd rather spend my $ elsewhere for my collection. Personally I'd consider adding 3 cards a much bigger "win" that even 10 plates. Similarly, I'd consider trading a 1/1 I own for 5 of the cards I've been hunting for a long time.

My own numbers missing. Total given first, with non 1/1s in parenthesis.

2001: 0
2002: 1 (1)
2003: 0
2004: 17 (2)
2005: 7 (1)
2006: 47 (2)
2007: 24 (1)
2008: 5
2009: 8
2010: 4
2011: 7
2012: 4
2013: 19 (2)

It's extremely unlikely that I'll complete any more years, with the possible exception of 2002. Even with the years where I'm only missing 4 or 5 1/1s, the likelihood of getting those 4 or 5 is tiny. With that in mind, I could either discount 1/1s from completion, or accept that I will never have a "complete" Jonny Gomes collection, continue to buy the 1/1s that pop up, and just choose to focus my collecting-inspired happiness on the 7 non 1/1s that never seem to appear, rather than the 134 1/1s that are MIA.

As it is, as collectors we tend to be fairly passive actors, spending inordinate amounts of time waiting for other people to get inspired, dig through their boxes, and list some junk cards on eBay (one of which we just so happen to desperately need). After a certain point, the most "active" things we can do--create websites, post wantlists, email random sellers on a whim--rarely do much more than find an extra card or two. This is true whether the card is a 1/1 or not. At this point I want the non-1/1 cards that I'm missing more than I want the 1/1s. But I also understand that by now I have next to no say over which cards become available; and so I'll take what I can get, 1/1 or not.

Some really good points here. Like me, odds are good I'll never see many of the 1/1s and plates but such is life. Love the chase. I know they're out there and I'll add them to my own checklist but know how some people can't do that.

Incredible collection though! Huge respect for Omar obviously. HOF one day IMO.
