It's funny, after browsing various message boards and reading opinions about the matchup, the most popular anti ND statements are "Notre Dame sucks" and "Notre Dame didn't play anybody good".

yeah at least they didn't go full retard like the SEC did with cutting back to 8 conference games during the season. a whole lot of SEC East teams would have gotten exposed if they'd had to play Bama and LSU, and maybe those stupid UGA fans wouldn't have gotten their hopes up thinking mark richt was *FINALLY* going to win the big one. or a medium one. or hell, at least something of note.

Did Bama and LSU play the top 3 SEC East finishing teams during the 2012 regular season? Only 1 team did, LSU, but they only played 2 of the top SEC East teams. LSU lost to Florida and beat SC. Did Bama play any of the top 3 finishing SEC East teams in the regular season? No they didn't, Bama scheduled Tennessee and Missouri from the SEC East.

Most informed people would agree that Mark Richt's 2-1 record in BCS bowl games and 2 SEC Championships were winning "big ones, medium ones, or something of note". I'm guessing you don't think UGA beating the #2 ranked Florida this year in their rivalry game qualifies as winning a big game because of both team's top 10 ranking and what the stakes were. Richt is also 23-13 record against UGA's 3 biggest rivals. I can't figure out if your stupid flared up or you're just ignorant.

ND getting no respect. All these SEC honks in the ATL talking junk and if they think Bama is going rush for 300 yards against the best defense in the NCAA, they have another thing coming. Can't wait to watch the game in Vegas.....GO IRISH!!!!!!

Here's a top 10 breakdown I found by stats. Everything fairly close. Gotta love ND's TD allowed column.

Even as a huge Notre Dame fan, I won't sit here and say they are the best defense, but there are arguements to be made.

The only team that could make me root for ND is Alabama. I really have nothing against Alabama, but more than any other person in sports, I hate Nick Saban. I can't stand that smug SOB. That being said, as a Big Ten (11? whatever the hell it is?) fan, as an OSU fan, I freely admit the SEC is the best conference by far. I fully expect this one to get lopsided early, but I'm hoping ND hangs in there and makes a game of it. Maybe they'll even pull it off, but I highly doubt it.

With 37 days, both teams basically have a month of summer practice to work freshman, get in good health, and add new wrinkles. You could see a new wrinkle from Alabama like Oregon did with Auburn:

Not saying Alabama runs the wishbone but I expect them to find someone that can play fullback and play around with Pistol formation and not look anything like they did in the Georgia game.

Had to find this for GameDay being here Finally!

Also had to laugh when, in an ESPN interview, Saban said he was "a happy guy"...
