I had a lot of fun with this, but it was awfully difficult. A lot of good players get left off.

Compose a 25 man roster for your favorite team. It has to be made up of players that actually played for that team.

Here is the one I did for the Reds. I must have changed it 10+ times and still keep thinking I need to make some changes. I thought about dropping a pitcher or two to add some more people to the bench.

Damn, that was tough, obviously, most of those guys wouldn't make the list if it was based solely on their performances as Mets, but in their heydays, damn this could be a hell of a team, haha

I'm waiting on men's group to start at church and quickly put one together off the top of my head. These are only guys I've seen play. The rotation was difficult, as it has been very poor since I've been a fan, but is looking like we have a bright future in Ventura, Lamb, Zimmer and Almonte!

I should have either taken less pitchers or went with a 40 man roster. I feel like I left out so many players.

jbhofmann Danny Jackson, Eric Davis, and Jim Maloney were on my rosters a few times. I kept tinkering. Nice list.

Yeah I could have went a ton of different ways but ultimately I decided on a team that I would most enjoy watching. Nice thread idea.

Chicago Cubs - Pretty solid up and down the lineup, including reserves. Relief pitching is the weakest, so I included some starters as middle relievers. Sorry, much like Ty Cobb in Field of Dreams, Sammy Sosa wanted to play for us, but none of us could stand the bastard (Rogers Hornsby almost missed the cut for the same reason - but we needed his versatility).

Very good list. One change I would make is putting Tony Oliva into the starting lineup for Torii Hunter. Oliva was the MVP runner-up in 1965 and 1970 and would have had his best season in 1971 when he led the league with a .337 average along with a league leading slugging % of .546, but only had 487 ABs because of his bad knees. He only managed 28 ABs the following year and was really never the same player again. Torii had a 15th place MVP finish, but that's it. Along with his two runner-ups for the MVP, Oliva had two other top 10 finishes (4th and 10th).

I like a lot of your lineup but I would definitely make some changes. I'd have ARod starting instead of Boggs as well as Clemens instead of Catfish.

Frank Viola got the Twins a World Series ring and a Cy Young, but I think Santana was just a little bit better. Should have had three Cy Youngs from 2004-2006 and came close a couple other times too, so I think I'd move Santana into the starting rotation.

I thought about that (I actually did, I'm such a nerd) but this allows Santana to pitch middle relief, especially a situation with two or three men on and you need a strikeout to end the inning. Viola has also never ben a RP, I wonder if he could be effective as one.

As far as Hunter goes, he actually came in 6th one year for MVP, but I was focusing on his 9 Gold Gloves and a need for some extra speed. Here's a better question, do I have the outfielders in the right position. Thinking that I should move Hunter to Left an Winfield to right.

Hmm, Santana was awesome in the pen. If he is going to be in the pen,I'd have him close though. I think I'd stick with Oliva's bat in the OF. He did win a Gold GLove in 1966 when he had good knees and with Puckett and Winfield you have thirteen gold gloves between them so I wouldn't be concerned about outfield defense. With Winfield's arm, I think you want him in RF with Oliva in left. Torii is a great late-inning defensive replacement. Now that I think about it, what might be ideal is a platoon. Here are the splits: Oliva -vs- right handers (.319/.372/.518) Hunter -vs- left handers (.290/.353/.489)
