Yankees dont need the money, either does ARod #FirstWorldProblems
Let me clarify, it's right that the Yankees are contesting the bonus for each HR milestone, since it will appear as tho ARods HRS are questionable.
They won't bench him. He is going to be the starting DH. IF he performs very poorly or doesn't do much I think they will bench him. After they signed Headley it pretty much solidified that ARod would only be a DH and backup 3B.I don't think whether or not the Yankees are able to recoup $6 million will have much to do with how much legitimacy people give A-Rod's homerun total when all is said and done. If anything, he may even get worse press than Clemens & Bonds did. This is a guy whose about to pass Willie Mays' on the all-time HR greats list. Really a shame what his career has turned into he had so much talent I think he would have been an all-time great regardless but obviously that's speculation no one cares to hear.
Another option for the Yankees is just to flat out bench him, that way he won't hit Mays' HR count and won't get paid the bonus but obviously the Yankees aren't in a position to do that with their lineup needs and the money the owe him for his regular contract. If anything, the Yankees need to pray he plays a full season and is productive.
lol smdh. Do you understand the contract? Clearly not. He was signed to a big deal but these "performance clauses" were put in a completely separate marketing deal. The deal was signed under the assumption that this would be a huge record chase, would sell mem and lots of other stuff, would fill the house etc. It is not his player contract they are going after. Its the completely separate marketing deal. ARod signed it under false assumptions and now this marketing portion has virtually no additional value to the Yankees. That is where they are going after him and likely will at least be able to cut the bonuses down. Are the Yankees prepared to forfeit their 2009 championship? They loved that Arod was juicing then. Now that it is not in their financial interest, they want to withhold funds? Their signature is on that joke of a contract, too.
I will put it this way: all of those hrs are going in the record books, so the contract needs to be honored. That's my opinion.
It matters not to me that this was a separate marketing deal. It seems to me that the Yankees were the ones making the false assumptions. I would like to see the contract; if there is wording in there about PED use or generally unbecoming conduct, then let the contract be voided (I have only read one short article about this and saw no mention of such language). Otherwise, it was a bad contract that needs to be lived up to.lol smdh. Do you understand the contract? Clearly not. I wondered aloud here at the end of last season if they would just release Arod and eat the money currently owed to him. The relationship is awful and spring training is going to be a circus of negativity. I almost feel bad for Yankees fans, but not really..
