Ruben Amaro Out As Phillies GM
By Steve Adams [September 10, 2015 at 11:16am CDT]

The Phillies announced today that they have decided not to extend the contract of general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. According to a team press release, assistant GM Scott Proefrock will take over as interim GM, effective immediately. The team’s search for a new, permanent GM begins today, per the release.

“It’s never an easy decision to make a change,” said president-to-be Andy MacPhail in the press release. “Ruben has had a direct impact on some of the best years in the team’s history. He helped to create some great memories for Phillies fans with his accomplishments, but in order to return to a top-contending club, we believe this is the right thing to do as we continue the rebuilding process.”

Not surprised - if you are going to clean house and rebuild, you might as well go all the way. Hopefully the next guy is strong at player development as the Phillies need a great draft and a strong farm system to continue to rebuild. I am not 100% convinced that free agency is always the best way to go - high risk and high reward always in play - ie: Ryan Howard's boat anchor contract that still has 1 more year and a $10M buyout for 2017
Just the rants of a big fan suffering with the dead last place record!

More reason to anticipate the 2016 MLB Draft. Won't have Amaro around to blow it. Let's get that #1 pick! (As if they need me to root for that to happen...they're bad enough to get it all on their own)

JP Crawford, Aaron Nola and Cornelius Randolph in the last three years.

I'm happy he's gone but lets not forget that he's leaving behind one of the better systems in baseball and at this time even a year ago, we weren't even in the high 20's.

The next GM has a lot to work with...

NO way they should have done the Howard or Papelbon deals at those Numbers but the second level of renewals, Utley, Ruiz and Rollins was absolutely idiotic, with Ownership's consent or not...

So ****ing happy this happened. He had a few good moves, but, the negative ones (extending Utley & Howard) and some of the trades or trades not made when they should've been made, and the prospects that came back, bit him in the ass. Good riddance.
