Nice frame job on the Dawson contract. I forgot his middle name was "Nolan". :)

Last month a 2007 Adam Dunn Topps contract sold for 3 times what I paid for my 2002 and 2003 contracts combined. I was shocked when the auction ended.

Two Dawson contracts have came up since I bought this one and I don't remember what I paid for it, but I know it was no where near what the other two went for because I was out of the bidding early on those.

I've managed to land six separate contracts. The last couple cost me more than I was anticipating, so perhaps the market is heating up for all players. I dunno - I don't track anyone else.

#6 mentions a "gift from the Topps Catalog." Has anyone ever seen the Topps Catalog or items from it? I wonder if it was full of random stuff, or if the stuff was Topps-branded?

Speaking of player gifts, I picked this up from the Vault in late 2012. From the auction description: (2) Original Topps Baseball Player Gift List File Card. Direct from the Topps Vault comes this original Topps Gift List file card. Oversize file card measures approx. 5" X 8" and is in its original state. Topps maintained gift cards like these for many years. Card contains the player's gift choices and Topps baseball card payment history. Players were eligible each year for a gift from the Topps catalog or cash in exchange for their baseball card rights.

The first part has some cool pencil writing with some of his minor league movement in the early 80s (top left). Also noteworthy is that he was compensated a whopping $5 in 1979. Woo hoo! (note: I just added boxes around the contracts that I own. Might as well have a running checklist of some sort.)

This little section was cut out from another card that wasn't included, and was stapled to the first part at the top right of that file card.

Lastly, this 2nd full-size file card has an obvious missing piece. Not sure what was written there, if anything.<BR><img

What I heard was that after they snubbed Maury Wills, and he, in turn, snubbed back, they gave any player in the minors a perfunctory $5 initially for rights. I have one of these cards for Bake McBride:

If I ever meet Bake I'll have to ask him about this "Hong Kong Headboard." Really curious about that.

I don't have any contracts. I've seen a few I had been interested in, but pricing goes up exponentially depending on the level of magnitude. I think a Greg Luzinski contract came up once and went for over $50, IIRC. And a Schmidt went for several hundred. Never saw a McBride, I hope I didn't miss one.

I actually have a Garvey contract, but it was not obtained through Topps directly, but rather someone who was reselling one. I'm sure it was much cheaper than had Topps sold it outright this go around. I have a lot of "proof" cards and a few 3 card panels, but that is the extent of the Garvey pieces.
