This came in the mail yesterday. I think it's one of the cooler things in my collection honestly. It isn't a card, of course, but the editor's note and the addition of the caption make it really interesting in my opinion.

Anyone who follows and loves baseball should know its history, and know who Bill Veeck was

Disco Demolition Night!, Eddie Gaedel, Fans as Manager Night...gotta love Bill Veeck and the fun he brought to baseball, even if the league wasn't always happy about it :)

He integrated the American League by signing Larry Doby to the Indians, after a failed bid to buy the Phillies in 1942 and fill the entire roster with ***** League players.

He was the only owner to testify for Curt Flood in his Federal hearings trying to take down the Reserve Clause.

He was also a veteran and lost his right leg in World War II.

He is one heck of an interesting character for sure. Every one who loves baseball history needs to read Veeck...as in Wreck at least once.

+1! robertwolf1 congrats on the addition, pretty cool item right there!
Wasn't Veeck also the guy who had a...um... Believe the approved current term is little person on his team for a short time so he could get a base runner because the guy had almost no strike zone and would routinely walk??

It was 1/8th. That was actually Bill DeWitt Jr's (the current majority owner of the Cardinals) jersey and it had number 6 on it. Veeck asked to borrow it and changed the number. The jersey is in the Cardinals Hall of Fame now.

I read this book when I was a kid and your post inspired me to pick up a copy. I found an autographed copy on eBay where they misspelled his name in the title. I got it for the minimum bid of $9.99, so thanks for the inspiration.
