(Not sure if death2redemptions still peruses this board, but I'd like for him to speculate as to why Cody Reed didn't make the cut. I'll ask this to Bill Mitchell in tomorrow's chat, for sure.)

This has to be the worst system in the business. I'd even put the Angels ahead of the D'Backs.

As bad as this is, I'd still rank the Angels and possibly the Marlins below it. They may even rank higher than the Tigers.

J.P.,

Are you as high on Peter Lambert as I am? He has to be the number 11 guy, right? I asked this question to BA, so we shall see.

Put up impressive numbers at a hitter-friendly park; I look forward to seeing how he does in an even more hitter-friendly park this year (Lancaster).

Me too. McCormick Field is an absolute sandbox. I saw him pitch there last summer and the kid was damn impressive. His curve is lights out.

The Rockies moved their single A team from Modesto but I look forward to catching him here or Stockton. I've read a lot of positive on him

Collecting: Phil Bickford, Brandon Wood (still), Yankees and Rockies

Every time i see Hoffman i'm like Roy Halladay clone. His numbers last yr are from high altitude leagues...i think this will be another kick in the ass for the Jays joining Syndergaard. Goes without saying i hated both trades. Hey i love Tulo...but he's been hurt on a regular basis yearly now. ugh...

>there was a list but it got chopped with Hoffman on it.

Harry (Denver): What are your thoughts on Pete Lambert? Future reliever or something more?

Tracy Ringolsby: Lambert is one of the rising stars. He has the arm and pitch assortment to be a top of the rotation starter if he commands the curveball. There's no thought of putting him in the bullpen. Too many tools for that.

John (NJ): I am REALLY high on Peter Lambert. I saw him throw last year and was blown away by his poise, overall mechanics and pure stuff. His delivery reminded me of Jake Arrieta. How close was he to the top 10? Thanks in advance!

Tracy Ringolsby: As close as you can get without being in the top 10. You are a good evaluator, although I'd say he's more like Kyle Hendricks.

J.P.,

Thanks for re-posting my question! That's really encouraging to see Lambert is thought of so highly. I can certainly live with that future projection.

That top 5 is rock solid. Though I'd put Alvarez at 5 and move the other 3 up a slot. Alvarez has a high ceiling but is still super raw, I'd give him a year before putting him ahead of a more well established De Leon.

Ben (Olney, MD): I realize Alvarez has a very high ceiling and there are some durability concerns for De Leon but given how few innings Alvarez has pitched - and at low levels - I'm nevertheless surprised to see him ranked above De Leon. If you had only one in your organization would you want it to be Alvarez? Why? From what I can tell the Dodgers must agree (and perhaps the Twins do too given Dozier is still in Minnesota). Thanks!

Ben Badler: I would take Alvarez. I’ve been the high man on De Leon for a while—I remember a lot of surprise when we ranked him No. 6 in the system as a 24th round pick with four starts in full-season ball—but Alvarez is a potential frontline starter. Alvarez has a lot of risk, but the pure stuff is electric and better across the board the De Leon with the exception of the changeup, although that pitch flashes plus for Alvarez too. He misses a ton of bats and while his command need to improve, he answered a lot of questions about his strike-throwing ability last year. Can Alvarez hold his stuff more than five innings and handle a full season’s workload? That might be the biggest risk with him, but De Leon has pretty serious durability questions himself based on what’s happened the last couple of seasons. Given the frontline starter upside with Alvarez and the risk De Leon has even though he’s already reached the major leagues, I’d take Alvarez.
