A nice surprise today at a local shop I visit every month or so here in Houston area. He has an area in his store of singles by players and in the years of coming here I've never really took the time to go digging though through but for some odd reason while we were doing our usual reacquainting and our baseball chatter about the Astros and talked about the 2014 Tek cards flying out of his store as collectors there seem to love them (I'm not getting sucked in this time) I decided to spend 30 minutes and go through and much to my surprise when reaching the Ms there was a familiar sparkly sight with a two dollar sticker on it.

1998 Topps TEK Pedro Martinez card# 41 pattern# 43 Diffractor....

Fits nicely in my Ultra Pro 90 card 10 sheet binder for Diffractor Set # 3

First 1998 TEK Diffractor in quite a while...

Those are definitely 3 diffractors, including a pattern 1. I hate to ruin your day, but read the negative comment left for the seller. It was for a Jason Kendall diffractor that the seller had pictured yet sent a regular card. I hope you get what is pictured - for $10 that's amazing. If anything you can get a refund for item not described if he sends you base cards.

I am lucky. I got the 3 Thome diffractors in the picture. They were sent in soft sleeves and a sandwich baggy; and luckily were in great shape. These cards are so awesome looking! They are patterns #1 , 52, and 74. Not for sale or trade as they are the only diffractors I have.

The 3 Thomes were originally being offered on facebook for $5. Really sad I missed them, but glad they made it in to a collector's hands. I am in talks with the seller to see what other TEKs he has.

I have an opportunity to buy 5 complete sets (1-90) for $50 per set. I don't think this is even close to a good price. What should I try to grab these at?

Been a while since I've seen any 1 to 90 98 Tek sets on eBay, but earlier this year I saw them sell between $65. and $80. or $85. I think $50. per is a very good price. I would go for it. Just the McGwire, Jeter, Griffey, and Ripken base cards each sell for a minimum of $5. per with many cards selling for $10. to $15. each. The Beckett 'book value' for the individual cards in a 1 to 90 set is over $150. The possible bonus here is also that this seller was clueless about base vs. diffractors as our Thome collector discovered. If she won't budge on the price, and you're not interested, please give her my name, e-mail [email protected] !

My 1998 Topps Tek diffractor collection is at 3168 out of the 8100. Don't see a lot of diffraator action out there. If you have any diffractors, and want to trade for others, here is what I have to trade. (I believe the dupe list is cotrrect and up-to-date.) NOT looking to sell, but TRADE. I also am willing to BUY. I'm willing to trade for diffractors in at least 'exc' condition -- nothing way off center or heavily spotted or heavily scratched. If you have something I need, I'm more than willing to trade in your favor. send a list of what you have and what you are looking for. Make me a trade offer at [email protected] or PM. (This is a long post, so if you respond on the list there is no need to repeat the whole post!)
