One of my locals has a sealed S2 retail box, been thinking of picking it up and hoping for a decent Gold.

I think I saw that Piazza just yesterday. I didn't bid due to the condition. It's pretty rough. That's most likely why it hasn't sold.

2. Yeah that Jeter had 86 bids ?? But looks like 2 bidders at the end shot out #s they probably didn't see anyone else doing. Same w the DC, looks like 2 snipes just sent it way up there. Always interesting to see what happens when 2 people go for something.

That's actually not too ridiculous. Those starquest golds usually bring six to seven hundred ungraded for the big guys... I dont get it, but yeah.

I tend to find the 1998's more difficult. Also more visually appealing.

It seems like any low #d (<100) cards from HUGELY produced "cheaper" sets are more difficult to find. Not all of the product was opened. Tons of unopened "leftover" cases are sitting around throughout the country, deemed "worthless" because there aren't huge hits or autos/GU to attract buyers. Also most of these cheaper products (UD Choice, Skybox Dugout Axcess) were aimed at kids, so when they did pull something, they didn't realize what they had, or even notice that the parallel version was different. I'd be willing to bet there are a ton of these parallels/inserts sitting in collectors' common boxes.

*I'd agree with you on the visual appearance of the card, by itself. The 1998s have a refractor-ish finish and look great. But the 1999s look cool together as a "rainbow" as the collectors are calling them these days.

That's insanity. The normal card can be got in PSA 10 for ~$35. That small gold palm tree carries a $7,500 premium.

And the odd part about that Chipper, there was another PSA 10 ending hours away from it that went closer to $5k. I never understood that much volatility in some of the graded cards.

It's good to be the underbidder? A $2500 price difference for this card in 1 day is odd to the point of questioning the 1st sale going through.

The Desert Storm cards really can't be compared to the base 1991s that easily. The DS print run was infinitesimal compared to the millions upon millions of base Topps that year. There's also the fact that they were meant to be issued overseas, in the desert, places where keeping cards mint was a tough feat. I don't know how much sealed DS product was available stateside, but I doubt it was much.

I thought the majority of it never made it overseas.
