This show be a good series. The only problem is see for the Mets is the long layoff. That usually kills the hot bats

Saw this morning that 5 out of the last 6 teams that had a lay off of 5 days or more lost the series. Definitely hurts momentum

Yep, hard to keep the bats hot without playing, but their young pitchers could benefit from the extra rest....they all had starts skipped at some point, so it is not something they haven't dealt with already this year....

Flores has non-displaced ankle fracture

5436.jpg

Wilmer Flores was diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of the left ankle bone.

Flores suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch in the Venezuelan Winter League. He'll wear a boot, but the Mets expect he'll be ready for spring training. As of now, the 24-year-old appears likely to share playing time at shortstop in 2016.

Well, this is a bit of a surprise...Not that he factored into any future OF plans (He was planned to be a RH hitting option at 1B)...Essentially we wasted a 1st round pick for one lousy year of Cuddyer

Michael Cuddyer announces his retirement

3182.jpg

Michael Cuddyer announced his retirement from professional baseball on Friday.

The Mets may have inadvertently let the cat out of the bag on Friday night when they briefly posted on their team transaction page that Cuddyer had retired. When asked in the wake of that, they answered with a simple "no comment" adding fuel to the fire that something could be in the works. The 36-year-old played for 15 seasons between the Twins, Rockies and Mets, slashing .277/.344/.461 with 197 home runs and 794 RBI. He was named to a pair of All-Star teams in 2001 and 2013.

[h=2]Mets Place Ruben Tejada On Waivers[/h]By Jeff Todd | March 15, 2016 at 9:50am CDT
The Mets have placed shortstop Ruben Tejada on waivers, ESPNNewYork.com’s Adam Rubin reports. He had agreed to a $3MM deal to avoid arbitration, and New York will remain responsible for one-sixth of that amount ($500K) if he is not claimed (or whatever portion of it he does not earn over the course of the season).
Tejada, 26, has settled in as a slightly below-average hitter and is capable of playing up the middle defensively. Though he’s generally graded out as an average defender at short, both UZR and DRS pegged him as a net negative there last season.
For a player that looks like a solid utility option, there’s been quite a bit of intrigue in recent months. Tejada suffered a broken leg due to a controversial take-out slide by Chase Utley during the post-season. He seemed a plausible non-tender candidate, but was offered a contract by the Mets. Then, he was awarded an extra day of service time to move up his free-agent timeline by one year (he’ll be eligible after this season).
Since that time, Tejada has seen his name enter the rumor mill, particularly with the Cardinals losing Jhonny Peralta for the first half of the year. Per Rubin, the Mets feel satisfied with their middle infield situation after adding Asdrubal Cabrera and Neil Walker over the winter, with Wilmer Flores set to see plenty of action around the diamond.
Sorry to see him go...but you have to produce

Matt Harvey keeping things interesting.....

Mets manager Terry Collins said Monday that Matt Harvey's status for Opening Day is suddenly in question.
Collins would not divulge further details, only saying that Harvey's "arm is fine." The right-hander has been scratched from his scheduled Grapefruit League start Tuesday against the Marlins, which would have served as a final tuneup for the regular season. Mets GM Sandy Alderson also addressed the media on Monday, but would only say that it was a non-baseball health issue. There is apparently an appointment scheduled with team doctors for Monday evening, though it's unclear what they might be examining. Odd stuff, but we've come to accept odd stuff with the Mets. The baseball part of it aside, here's hoping for the best.Mar 28 - 3:44 PM

Nice little comeback last night, but too little too late...and Cespedes wasn't exactly the gold glove winning, big stick guy we thought he was, I hope I wasn't wrong about wanting him back....
