What is the story on STAR cards from the 80's/90's?

Joel -

Great run , besides what you've posted and two promos you mentioned needing , this is the only other one that I know of that you need.

Here are the two missing promos

I need the darn Glossy Bay Bombers Promo.

I've got all the sets in "opened/snap case" form, but also am trying to assemble all the sets that came in sealed bag for as well. I believe I have the Yellow Autod set somewhere, but also have these. Anyone know what other sets came sealed that I don't have? (Besides the Reg Bay Bombers and Reg Clark/Mitchell)

Ryan, you think that '88 cameo with Canseco has a glossy version similar to the Clark Bay Bombers matte/glossy sets?

I am in need of two Kirby Puckett Star sets if anybody has 'em. Looking for Puckett 1988 Glossy (#/250 I believe), and Puckett 1991 All-Star (#/500 I believe). If anybody has them, let me know, thanks!

I haven't personally purchased any of these, but if you want error variations of the player you collect, there's an eBay seller that has a bunch of uncut sheets with incomplete print jobs. For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1988-Star-U...393940?hash=item1e9c01f954:g:PskAAOSw9r1V8e45

I had actually ordered a sheet from them that had the Canseco blank backs but they were wrinkled on the front so I had to return :/

I use to have all the Ken Griffey Jr "Star Co" cards from 1988 to 1989 (45 total different cards). I never did get the 1989 autographed version (46 total cards).

I actually JUST picked up a 1986 star sealed set w/the Canseco auto on the front & hand numbered, too. I already had one sealed (and one out of the package) but the price was mega enticing, plus what it was numbered to had significant meaning for me.

Recently added the 1991 Star All-Star Puckett set to my collection (/500).

Not like it's that rare, but it doesn't show up for sale as often as many of the others.

That leaves the 1988 Glossy (/200) set as the only Puckett set I don't have.

While I'd like to add that missing set, I can't say I'm too inclined to get excited about the dozen or so promos I don't have. They are all pretty visually uninteresting in my mind.

Can anyone confirm that the 1989 Star Young Prospects set actually comes in a Glossy version?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-Star-Company-Young-Prospects-Limited-Edition-Glossy-Set-/121972764850

This listing is the first time I've seen mention of one.

The star sets are mega wacky. So many of them aren't listed anywhere at all. I've run across the glossy versions of sets before that aren't documented. I don't know what to say on this set, however, the fronts of the card almost look like they can be glossy to me as they aren't 100% smooth looking gradients in the colored borders. I could be wrong, though. The best way def. would be to ask the seller. As a rule of thumb, they will say yes, no or I'm not sure. I'm not sure typically means matte.

Curious for those who collect Star issues, if you can/will list:

Number of different sets that you have for your player / Number of sets your player has (that are known)

Number of different promos you have / Number of different promos you have for you player (that are known)

I'm gonna check my Clark's out, wondering what other types of CPU ya are out there.

As far as I know, I have all of the Winfield cards Star issued. The 1988 Winfield set, 1988 Winfield Glossy set, 1988 Winfield set with autographed card #1 , 1988 Winfield stickers set, 1988 Winfield Gold set, 1988 black (gold) promo and 1988 red promo.

For Meulens, I have his two cards from the 1989 Young Prospects set (which may have a glossy parallel), the card from 1989 Albany team set, and both the error and corrected versions from the 1989 Star Minor League set.

For Tuffy Rhodes, I think I have all of his Star issues. I have his 1988 Star Florida State League All Star card, 1988 Osceola Astros card, 1989 Columbus Mudcats team set card, 1989 Columbus Mudcats team set glossy card and he was pictured on David Rohde's card from the 1989 Star Minor League set.
