Torn ligament in his left thumb, thanks to the head first slide. Surgery expected. Out for as many as 8 weeks.

And no, it's not April 1st. :(

That's a shame. He's having perhaps his best season and is a Triple Crown candidate, leading the AL in average, second in homers and fourth in RBI, and he's on pace for a 40/40 season.

He's finally back to stealing a lot of bases, and then gets hurt stealing a base.

8 weeks is quite a lot of time. Hopefully the recovery goes well and there is no residual effect.

This sucks for all baseball fans. He's so good for the game. Hope he can heal up fast and come back and play like Mike Trout. He was having possibly his best year ever...

So this will be the first all star game he won't be in right? Also probably won't win MVP now this year.

Will he stop sliding head first? Does he not wear one of those oven mitt looking things that a lot of other players are wearing now?

Rickey Henderson and Pete Rose would disagree, and they had two of the longest careers in history.
Trout's injury was just an unfortunate accident.

They played in a different era. These days, slides are much more aggressive and malevolent in nature.

Oh come on. Sliding was much more violent decades ago, especially when Rose was playing. Umpires often turned a blind eye to basepath collisions and takeout slides, and catchers were sitting ducks at homeplate.

And then there was Ty Cobb, who sharpened his spikes and literally tried to impale fielders.

And yet it was this era in which new rules were implemented when it came to sliding into home. Anyway, we'll agree to disagree, as this is derailing the topic.

Big blow for baseball and the Angels. Don't think anyone is catching the Astro's in the AL West, but you never know. I hope Trout has a speedy recovery. Anybody know why teams put players on the 10 day DL instead of the 60 day DL when their supposed to be out for 8 weeks?

8 weeks is 56 days. It's always possible that he may be ready before the 8 weeks are up
