I just scored this lot on eBay. I have purchased singles before, but can't say I have ever seen a pack or a box (top). Looks pretty basic, almost home made. I like the checklist that comes with the packs. I would have to refresh my memory, but I am not sure if this set was cataloged in one of the big books or not. Looking forward to getting the lot.

Has anyone seen these before? Am I just fooling myself into thinking I stumbled upon something a little more unique than the average button issue of the 70s-90s?

I've seen a few variations for Biggio and others while searching. I've seen the buttons and the the square proofs. I'm not sure they are all that rare but still neat.

I say anytime you find the original packaging/boxes it makes it collectible IMO. The buttons by themselves are eh, I like how you bought them though.

Those are very good, they seem to be even harder than the 1990, 1991 and 1992 Vincentown Buttons.

These predate the red and yellow buttons from the early 90s. These are from the mid-late 80s, probably 86 or so. I could probably figure it out from the checklist to make it exact, but no time at the moment.

Cool pickup! I was thinking 1985 myself.

I poked around with some of the more obscure names from the checklist and some guys near the end of their careers. I am thinking this is a 1986 issue, but not yet confirmed and it could easily be 1985 too from everyone I looked up. I didn't find anyone who definitely ruled out 85 or 86, but I am fairly certain they are not older or newer as some of the players likely ruled out 87 and some guys were not playing or popular in 84.

I am thinking years like baseball card issues too. If the player played for the Cubs in 85 for example and had a button, then it was probably sold in 86 (after the 85 season ended or more likely early 86 before the season started).

The lot arrived today, but I have not looked closer at anything yet.

Those are the larger 3" buttons. Probably issued in the same time frame as the smaller buttons, but the issue obviously continued to update as Morris joined Toronto in 92. Garvey has a Padre 3" button too, and I have one on the card like that, but he retired in 1988. May have sold some of them after he retired (NOS?), but likely would have been issued while he was playing and more popular/recognizable.

Think I just cracked the case. Just need to confirm Dann Bilardello is an Expo on his pin (and since a lot of the players are grouped by team, he is next to Raines, so it is likely). If he is, these are definitely from 1986 or maybe issued after the 1986 season. He was a Red in 85, Expo in 86 and back in the Minors by 87.

Thanks to DaClyde, who has an image posted, I don't even have to rip packs to see. These are from 1986.

I dug out the big books and this set was listed at 125 subjects and is 86, so all that for nothing!
