Wrong backs are somewhat common, although finding specific examples can be hard. That is a good one, as McGwire is so popular. Can't say I have seen one, but then again I am not really looking for them either.
Sometimes these were very common. In the case of Garvey, where I was looking, I can think of 3 very common wrong backs. 74 Topps with Milt Pappas back (there is also a Pappas front/Garvey back), 1982 Garvey/Willie Randolph (same as 74, with both players found on front with the other on back) and the third is 1987 Topps Garvey/ Donnie Moore, and I believe they can also be found in 2 variations if I recall. Clearly some wrong backs were made in multiple sheets where maybe others were caught earlier and have fewer examples.
