I got this today in a trade and noticed when I scanned it that it looks like he is wearing number 2 and this is card number 2/5. Being from football it carries a crazy premium especially on rookies so I was wondering if the same applied in baseball

Sometimes, it's not an exact science. But I'll hazard a guess that it's more probable with veteran stars and HOF'ers than prospects.

This has been asked may time before and it all depends on the buyer and how they collect their stuff.

I know someone that want his players jersey number on all the auto's and numbered game use he collects
of his guy, when possible.

Jersey number significance seems to decrease as the card becomes more and more rare.

True, For example, something #d 0002/1000 would carry a premium to collectors like that over other /1000. More so than a 2/5 over the other 4. You'd figure a red /5 would be sought after enough by itself.

Any old /1000 or so that goes for a dollar or 2, could go for upwards of 10 to the right collector if it is a jersey #/1000.

A red /5 that might go for 50 or 60 normally, would probably not go for 2-3x just for the jersey #.

Perfect example of a jersey number card carrying a premium.

2010 Bowman Orange #BP1 Stephen Strasburg Nationals/250 = 127.50

Bowman ORANGE Stephen Strasburg Jersey # 37 of 250 1/1 = 859.50

I did see that one but that seems more like stupidity than a premium :D
