FCB Weekly Hot List - March 12th Edition
1. Aroldis Chapman 2009 Elite Extra Edition Autos
Comments: This is Aroldis' second appearance on the Hot List and it is his second appearance at the top. His Elite autos sold for near $6o when the product was released, then they dropped to $30. Now, after a nice Spring Training debut they are selling for $75-$100, what a flip! Throwing 102 mph and being a Cuban defector gets you lots of press coverage. Lots of press coverage gets you great sales! 2. Jason Heyward Autographs & Rookies
Comments: A Hot List staple in it's short history. The Atlanta love affair with Heyward has now turned national. Tim Kirkjian said last week "the balls he was hitting sounded like .30-06 shots." Shooting a .30-06 hurts your shoulder, its incredibly loud, its a big gun. Sterling Gems are now near $170 regularly and collectors who sold just a few weeks ago are wishing they held. 3. Jenrry Mejia 2009 Elite Extra Edition Autos
Comments: Jenrry's nice Spring Training performance thus far has driven his TOTC Autos /744 from the $10 they were selling at to near $25 now. These He's got filthy stuff, the scouts love him and he's in the New York market - why weren't more people buying? I am asking myself that question this week. 4. Starlin Castro 2009 Bowman Chrome
Comments: The words 2009 Bowman Chrome don't exactly conjure up wonderful memories for many casebreakers. However, with Castro base chromes selling for $10 each now and Santana Chrome Autos popping, there is more reason to like the product. From a card hype perspective this young Cubs SS has a lot to live up to! 5. Darren Collison 2009-10 Exquisite Autos /225
Comments: I though these had settled around $60 and Collison wouldn't be on the list. Not happening, they are now near $90 as he continues to blow away expectations. 6. Michael Phelps 2009 Allen & Ginter Autos
Comments: The "base" are closing over $600 and this week a Gold Medal 1/1 sold for over $2k, the sales and bids on this card is simply incredible. Beautiful design + very rare auto = big bucks. 7. Ike Davis 2008 Bowman Chrome Draft Autos & Parallels
Comments: People who prospected Mets like Mejia and Davis must be singing Frank Sinatra's song "New York, New York." Big profits have been made this Spring Training on both Mejia and Ike Davis. Davis Chromes continue to sell for $25 or more per. A Gold Refractor 9.5 sold for $300 this past week! 8. Roy Halladay 1997 Bowman & Bowman Chrome
Comments: Philly fans are hoping that Roy will be their huckleberry. His 1997 Bowman and Bowman Chrome rookie cards have seen a lot of action this spring. Base Bowmans are selling for $3-$5 with some Bowman Chrome cards hitting $20. 9. Sidney Crosby Cards
Comments: Although his cards are not where they were last week, Sidney Canada still makes this list because of the huge amount of hobby attention he is receiving. What all this really does is prove that with enough hype there truly is no limit to what a rookie card can sell for. 10. Matt Moore 2007 Rookie Autos
Comments: The beneficiary of Jake Delhomme's departure Moore now appears to be the quarter back to be in Carolina. Quarterbacks are a big deal and as a result Moore's cards have seen a ton of action on eBay lately. Ok...so typically we stop at 10 but with Spring Training happening..the hot cards don't end here, so with that said, here are 3 bonus entries! 11. Stephen Strasburg 2008 UD Sweet Spot Autos
Comments: It seems like for years we've talked about Strasburg and what he might do in the big leagues. Now with Spring Training we are finally getting a little taste. The renewed interest and spotlight on him has driven his Sweet Spot auto up, the most recent sales were $275, just a few weeks ago $200 may have bought you one. 12. Mike Stanton 2008 Bowman Chrome Draft Autos
Comments: Several Buy-It-Nows were hit at $60 this week and Stanton's cards continue to rise. They now sell for double what they did just 3 months ago. 13. 2010 Topps Milton Bradley Variation #2 SP
Comments: The number 13 brings a lot of bad connotations with it, they certainly are merited with Bradley occupying the 13th spot on this list. As a lifelong Cubs fan, I won't even play Milton Bradley games anymore, just the sight of the name pains me so. Props to 200lbhockeyplayer for digging up this SP. |
