Unique Black Refractor #800, and it's a tough one:

Seems like just yesterday I was at 500 different.

For a contest, guess the date #1000 comes in the mail (I guess you have to plan to be around for a while!) Prize will be something nice I'm sure.

Tiebreaker - year, player, serial number XX/63 (guess the numbers XX.) Price is Right rules will apply - closest date without going over. Guesses must be posted by Dec. 31st, 2012

Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far.

My complete black refractor collection:

Still plenty of time to get in on this one.

Just got #885 in the mail, in a BGS 9.5 slab.

Had one of these a while ago and sold it. Really happy to have a replacement.

Prize package for the winning guess will probably have a BV in the $200 range or so, and will be tailored to the winner's tastes.

Some of my new favorite pickups that I don't think I've shown off yet. Jeters are getting out of control (selling for around 200 each), so the 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2010 Jeter blacks will probably have to wait a while before I pull the trigger on one!

Does it bother you buying the black refractors inserted in 2010 Topps Chrome instead of ones from Topps Heritage?

Not really, since they are a continuation of the Heritage chrome set. The only year that sort of bugs me is 2011, when they went with the Topps CHrome logo instead of Heritage. The cards are actually different themselves as well.

2008 Series 1 - Inserted in Topps Heritage, nice thick cards, tons of etching and detail:

2008 Series 2 - Inserted into Topps Chrome, much less detail, not as shiny:

2008 Series 3 - Inserted into Heritage High Numbers, more detail than Series 2, not as thick as Series 1:

2009 Series 1 - Inserted into Topps Heritage, lots of detail:

2009 Series 2 - Into Topps Heritage High Numbers, virtually identical to Series 1:

2010 Series 1 - Inserted into Topps Heritage:

2010 Series 2 - Inserted into Topps Chrome, not as much detail, cards have the infamous warping that turns them into macaroni like all other 2010 Topps Chrome, and they scan a lot lighter. Only 50 cards though, the smallest Heritage Chrome set:

2011 Series 1 - Inserted into Heritage, tons of detail, nice thick cards, hardly any star players:

2011 Series 2 - Inserted into Topps Chrome, tons of surface issues, Topps Chrome logo instead of Heritage, almost all star players are in series 2:

I'll be at 930 different once I finish scanning tonight. Only a few people entered so far, and you'll wish you had thrown a guess out once the prize goes out.
