Wandy Rodriguez to Pirates for Alen Hanson

Was wondering if the Astros would have traded Wandy last week.
I'm watching the Cubs Pirates game and there is now mention of this right now.
And it seems the stros will have to pay most of his money.
Rodriguez is making $10 million this year and will receive $13.5 million next season with a player option for between $13 and $14 million in 2014 that kicks in if he’s traded.
While he certainly won’t be worth what the player option will cost in two years -which means he’ll more than likely exercise it – he should still be a serviceable pitcher then and could serve as a sort of mentor for what is sure to be a young pitching staff featuring the likes of top prospects Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon.

Wow Astros are loading up that farm system.
Good move for both teams. The Astros are garbage and might as well blow everything up at this point. Rodriguez is a nice starter for Pittsburgh, though if I were them I'd be looking for a big bat rather than another arm.

Rodriguez is a quality lefty. If the Astros are picking up a large part of the tab, Pittsburgh gets a good veteran starter for 2.5 years at a reasonable price. A couple of good but not great prospects is a reasonable price to pay.

Getting a proven starter while in first place in the WC? Not sure how that's crap, Pirates are obviously trying to give their fans a winning season for once...

I guess I should have mentioned how little I think of wandy.
