This may be old news, but I stumbled onto it myself. I was going through a bunch of old cards, pulling doubles for the son of someone I deal with in Venezuela...

Flipping through this stack I passed few copies of the 2000 Emerald card, and pulled one. I kept going but something just didn't seem right. I went back and sure enough, there is a very subtle difference between 2 of the cards. I had to pull the Emerald version just to make sure, and I'm right. It seems that the texture pattern on the cards can vary. On one, the texture is just like a random pebble grain. The other has a distinct pattern which spirals out from the center. Incidentally the Metal Emerald I have is the spiral-type.

Is this well known, nothing to write home about, or did I stumble onto something here?

I believe there are 4 different patterns: an oval shape, an 'S' swiral shape, a radiant shape, and a less distinct circle shape that can look just pebbly.

Single players should only have one shape though, never heard of the same player having different shapes. If you have a player with multiple backgrounds, that may be something.

Great to know. I definitely have the "S" and the pebbly versions of Vizquel. Now I can stay up at night wondering if the other two are out there. Thank you very much. :)
