Arod, Pujols, Beltre and Miggy have the most definitive chances at 3,000.

Crawford and Reyes would have had a shot if not for all their nagging injuries.

It's a shame that Vizquel is so close, but won't make it.

And Vlad, who was a near shoo-in for 3,000 hits and 500 homers, won't reach either milestone because no team wants him.

ARod is basically a lock unless he has a career ending injury
I think Ichiro will stick around long enough to get there
Pujols is almost a lock as long as he avoids injury
Beltre has a good shot especially with the way his last few years have gone
Cabrera is going to end up with 3500+

I'm confident these guys will get there (Miggy has to stay healthy though and despite his weight, he hasn't shown why he can't)

2.Alex Rodriguez (36) 2880

7.Ichiro Suzuki (38) 2577
14.Albert Pujols (32) 2224
33.Miguel Cabrera (29) 1771

These guys have outside chances or there are other factors that have to come into play.

15. Michael Young (35) 2202 - He could be a Paul Molitor type player for a team if he hits above .300 (he's having his worse year this year, but he can bounce back, he's still a very good hitter).
16.Adrian Beltre (33) 2201 - He's very young for having 2,200 hits. If he players another 6 years, which he easily could, he'll get there.
42.Jose Reyes (29) 1458 - Health is the key for him. Can he play 10 more years and average 150 hits? Possible.
43.Robinson Cano (29) 1425 - I actually think he will do it but he still has a long ways to go. He has the purest swing I've seen for a lefty since Griffey. I really don't think he'll be a Yankee and some team will sign him for an absurd contract.

Agree on all. For some reason I think Cabrera is not going to age well. Just a feeling, nothing else.

Cabrera is that thick cheerleader that was cute in high school. She went to college and comes back home +15 pounds. Nothing terrible, but over time she continues to pack on pounds and by the times she's 30 you wonder what went wrong.

I believe a lot of diehard Yankee fans think this may happen. He changed agents, moving to Boras, he's an elite player at a premium position and plays great defense. He's going to get $22-24M/yr, probably 7 years. At a position were longevity isn't exactly commonplace. With the Yanks looking to cut the budget by 2014, they have some decisions to make. If it's me, I let Granderson walk, hope Jeter is taking a discount those last few years, and make any of the kids in the minors (Slade Heathcott, Ramon Flores, Mason Williams) can be that CF.

I don't see the Yankees not paying enough for Robinson Cano. Money is never an issue with the Yankees. They know what they have in Cano.

He probably has the best arm at 2nd ever.

I had high hopes for Rollins after his MVP season, but that ended up being his career year with a .296 batting average. Even since he's hit about .255, plus he had one season where he was injured and only had 85 hits, so he reached his 2000th hit about a year later than I projected. He's still good enough with the glove that I expect he'll play into his late thirties, but I think he'll end up in the 2700-2800 hit range. (At this point they really need to move him down to 6th or 7th in the order.)

People talk about him aging poorly, but he's never been injury prone, and is actually smaller this season. Is he going to stick at 3B his whole career? No, but he doesn't need to. Fielder will be the DH in a few years, and Cabrera will play 1B.

Cabrera isn't really all that different than Pujols size wise.

Pujols: 6'3 230
Cabrera: 6'4 240
