I do it all the time and I'm sure many of you do as well. You're shuffling through some old cards and see a 1990 Donruss Sammy Sosa RC, for instance. Then a little later you see a 1990 Donruss Juan Gonzalez RC. And then even later you see a 1990 Donruss Baseball's Best Greg Vaughn. Suddenly you start to think to yourself, "How in the heck did Frank Thomas NOT get included in 1990 Donruss?!"

Forget about the specifics of why certain players were never included in certain sets...what are some of the cards you wish were issued but never were?

For me it's a lot of early 1990's rookie and insert cards. I wish I could've seen:

1991 Fleer Ultra Update Jim Thome
1991 Leaf Gold Rookies Jim Thome and Chipper Jones
1989 Upper Deck Curt Schilling and Robin Ventura
1984 Topps Traded Clemens and Puckett (since Fleer managed to included them in the '84 Update set)
1992 Fleer Rookie Sensations Mike Piazza
1954 and 1955 Bowman Warren Spahn
early 1990's Upper Deck Warren Spahn Heroes of Baseball insert set w/ auto (like the Reggie Jackson, Nolan Ryan, Hank Aaron sets, etc)
+ tons more

What about a Jeter / Ripken Pinnacle Idols (if they would've kept the set going from the '92 version) ?

That reminds me...how about a 1993 Pinnacle "Rookie Team Pinnacle" Jeter? The one they put out for shortstop was Wil Cordero/Manny Alexander.

And the edges on the "back" of those Team Pinnacle cards were so condition sensitive (like the '93 SP foils) that a BGS/PSA 10 would be such a rare find and a prized possession in any Jeter collection.

I made these when I was about 15 and just starting to learn about photoshop. Figured it would be interested to see what some rookies which were never made would look like.

Base Topps/Topps Chrome should be able to find a way to include certain high-caliber veteran players who retired the prior off-season just so there'd be a complete run for that player that shows all that player's stats.

For example, Chipper should have a 2013 Topps/Topps Chrome issue that shows his complete career stats, but he won't given precedent. Neither will Omar Vizquel.

My favorite modern set is 2001 Topps Tribute, and it bothers me that the set didn't include every player with a retired number due to contractual issues. The set just feels unfinished without Mantle and Williams (though both were given a nod in the form of buybacks).

I figured you would have a couple Canseco "should'ves." That TTT Bash Brothers idea is so good I wouldn't be surprised to see it next year if Topps were to read this. As a White Sox fan, a Triple Threads "Four Horsemen" card spotlighting the four pitchers (Buehrle, Garcia, Contreras, and Garland) who each threw complete games in games 2-5 of the 2005 ALCS would be awesome, too.

At least we got to see what Griffey looked like on an '89 Topps, even if it was the Traded issue. Same with Maddux and Alomar. Frank Thomas did have a Score and Score Traded, but no Upper Deck (how did that happen?!). I definitely agree with you about all those Bowman vs Topps stars in the early '50's, though. I'd love to have me a 1954 and 1955 Bowman Spahn.
