Does anyone actually collect Harper, Strasburg, etc?

I like collecting a player. In a couple cases it's to a completist level, in others it's assembling a nice collection of top-end cards. I have to admit, after all the hype, I've become a fan of Bryce Harper's. The way he performed on the field was admirable for someone so young, things like the Cole Hamels plunking, then off the field, the clown questions, the hype, etc., he seems really grounded based on what I read. Full of himself to the point of arrogance, maybe, but not belligerent like someone like Barry Bonds was in the mid-80s. Anyway, I'd get some of his cards if they weren't so expensive, but it makes me wonder if anyone's buying without at least some eye to the flip. Anyone have a really nice Harper collection they're planning to keep? Same for Strasburg, Trout, and other top-tier guys. I can understand wanting to sell while the iron's hot, but anyone filling in their 2012 checklists after their rookie cards are gone? Stanton's my guy, I've got a few of his best cards I'm planning on holding forever.

I saw Strasburg pitch a couple times here in Syracuse when he was coming up. Kids and I became instant fans and started collecting him on top of our usual. Too expensive to keep up with on top of our main guys (mine is Kershaw obv). I've actually sold some of his stuff to support Kershaw collection. Still big fans of him and I have kept some main items... 2010 topps chrome auto, auto baseball, most base and parallel RC's etc. I was always curious as well. Saw Harper in minors too... he was already too much!!

I have a ton of Strasburg-- over 150 cards, including numerous refractors, some graded 9.5, a gold ref, etc. I also have a nice stash of Harper, even after selling his auto and lots of chrome, etc.

I have a stash of Stanton stuff if you want it? I have a dual relic /99 and a dula relic /196, both ref inserts in 2011 Bowman Sterling. Here's one:

I collected Strasburg in 2010 to the point of insanity buying autos, inserts, and busting Bowman wax and I did the same with Harper to an extent. I have a ton of base, inserts as well for both.
I have sold a few autos here and there because I needed extra cash. Probably lost more money than I made back but I still have some nice stuff. As far as Trout goes I had a nice stash but once the prices became insane I couldn't pass up the profits. His base cards fetched a ton so I sold all all of what I had. Sold off my last few autos as well, sort of regret not keeping his 09 Chrome Auto.

I will more than likely sell off all of the base, inserts, lower end autos of Strasburg and Harper if they get has hot as Trout was.
I plan to keep at least copies of the Bowman paper and Bowman Chrome Autos.

I collect Harper, and have a small collection of Strasburg. I live in Las Vegas so it's nice to root for the home town kid. One of my co-workers son's is still friends with him and from what I hear he's a nice kid. I'm rooting for him to have a good career. I don't buy his cards expecting to profit and in fact I understand I will probably lose money on most of them if I ever sell but I probably won't ever do that. It will be just like my griffey collection, he will have a great career but in the long run there is always newer more exciting stuff coming out, so no matter how rare or how great of a career someone has most of their stuff comes down (unless you're Jeter that is lol) But I enjoy collecting Harper as well as all the other cards i buy and it provides me a little distraction from the rest of my life (and keeps me from wasting money in the casino's) so I figure it's worth it.

Is the Finest refractor considered the base RC?

I collect 2010 Strasburg stuff and 2011-12 Harper stuff. My best cards are a 2010 BC Strasburg auto /99 (tipping his cap) and a 2011 BC Harper.
