Are there any classic baseball card designs left that haven't been used for modern sets?

I love retro-themed sets like Heritage, Cracker Jack and Turkey Red.
Fleer used Goudey, and even copied 1954 Topps' design for a base set.
Upper Deck had retro sets like Play Ball, and also copied 1971 Topps' design.
Heritage is the obvious king, using the 1952 through the current 1964 Topps design since 2001.
There has been a T206 set. Gypsey Queen. There was even a minor league set using the 1880's Old Judge name. TCMA used 1953 Bowman.
And multitudes of other retro-sets borrow classic designs.

So what legendary (pre-1970) sets are left?

nope, all out...companies soon will need to create good products so they can copy themselves. :)

Should just hit up the 89 topps design, had a nice classic look to it at the time

They should really bring this back. Imagine the buybacks!

This design has been used on a few old TCMA sets, but never any true retro releases:

1922 American Caramel E120. The T204 Ramly would make a great retro set as well, although Donruss did base an insert set on the design:

Dude, did you not see the '81 Drakes? Classic and classy all in one.
I actually own the 1981-1985 Drakes. I collect '80s sets, and the Drakes sets are cool in a tacky sort of way. And they're made by Topps (the backs are similar to that year's Topps sets) so they're high quality cards.
I wish food companies like Drakes, Hostess, General Mills and Kellogg's still put baseball cards in their products.

I was also a fan of the '84 Ralston Purina cards:

Tacky cards too, but had a sort of charm. Those and the little 33 card box sets you could find at Woolworth's and the like. Sets/designs like these would be perfect as inserts in current sets with matching retro year themes. Like when Heritage gets to the '81 design they could have the '81 Drakes design as an insert.

That's a cool idea, if Topps could get the company logos to use. The cards wouldn't be as cool without the Kmart, Woolworth and KayBee logos plastered on the cards.

Should be good on the kaybee one once the years get to it, that company isn't around any more

And neither is Ralston Purina (though it's now part of Nestle). Gotta figure it's easy since it's free/cheap advertising for the company.
