I just won the McGwire, but don't know too much about them. Another collector informed me how rare they were, so I made sure to win it

I was told when I bought mine about 5 years ago was that these had a print run of about 25. I don't know that for a fact, but until this last week, I had only seen one mcgwire (the one I own). This last week though, I've seen two of the McGwire. My original guess was that there were 50 of them but I was told they were more rare than that. I wish somebody that knew for certain would pop up and clear out the air!

Card is graded so I have a bad scan

+1. I won the Jeter because I was also told they were very rare.

I'm impressed with these cards. I really like the look and didn't realize they were embossed. Makes me wish I would have pressed the Thomas a little harder.

Here's a 1994 TSC Super Team (White Sox), as well as a 1996 TSC Extreme Player "Gold" Royce Clayton (which was a form of super-team, except in the form of individual player by position played). I know they aren't the same year as you were looking for but it's the same concept. :D

I think I had the Bronze '96 Piazza...redeemed it for the set which I still have.

I have the Thomas Gold and Bronze, but not the silver.

Not sure, but definitely a weird set when Juan Gonzales sells for triple what Griffey did.

So it looks like I am 6 years late to the party, but just the same I will try and write a semi-authoritative response here: I have personally owned 2 sets of these. The first I broke and sold as singles in early 2010 (I know at least a few current FCB's bought their player from me) and the second set has a cool story. It came from Tony Gwynn's personal baseball card collection auctioned off in 2012. I ended up selling the set whole to a collector for what I thought was a nice offer, enough to make me not bother breaking it.

My best guess is that there are between 50-100 sets out there. The Luis Gonzalez Dbacks card was the winner that year, but with the timing of the release and with the 9/11 distraction, not a lot ended up getting redeemed. It is a cool, under-appreciated set. The back was pretty prone to chipping too.

I have all 30 cards scanned for posterity on my site.
